Costco Closes All U.S. Stores on Memorial Day
In observance of Memorial Day 2025, Costco has announced that all of its U.S. warehouse locations will be closed on Monday, May 26. This closure aligns with the company’s long-standing tradition of giving employees time off to commemorate national holidays with their families.
Why Is Costco Closing?
Memorial Day, a federal holiday honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military, is one of seven holidays on which Costco shuts its doors nationwide. The decision reflects the company’s commitment to work-life balance and its respect for national observances.
Other holidays when Costco typically closes include New Year’s Day, Easter Sunday, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
What This Means for Shoppers
With the closure falling on a Monday — a common day for grocery runs and bulk restocking — customers should plan ahead. Make sure you do your weekly shopping not on Monday, but earlier in the week or over the weekend to avoid disruption.
Expect higher traffic at Costco locations on Saturday, May 24, and Sunday, May 25, as shoppers stock up ahead of the holiday. Early morning visits are usually your best bet for avoiding long lines and crowded aisles.
What About Costco.com?
While the physical warehouses will be closed, Costco’s online store (Costco.com) will remain operational. Shoppers can still place orders for non-perishable items, electronics, and other goods, but deliveries may be delayed due to the holiday.
Planning Ahead
If you’re hosting a barbecue, heading out for a road trip, or just need to replenish household essentials, now is the time to create your shopping list. Memorial Day is one of the busiest travel weekends of the year, and preparation is key.
Stay informed and shop smart — and don’t forget to take a moment to honor those who have served.
