Before even getting into this story, I want to say that I read this letter that was sent out by the US government (Marines), and my takeaway was, “Get ready gentleman. They are not asking you, they are telling you that the day of your deployment is coming.” The letter was sent to US Marine reservists, signed by Lt. Gen. Leonard F. Anderson IV, who is the commander of Marine Forces Reserve. This man is a highly decorated “somebody”. This ain’t no joke.
And with that, US Marine reservists expressed confusion, fear, and frustration on Reddit after getting the letter urging them to be prepared for potential deployment to Iran. The notice warned Marines to check their gear, readiness, and personal affairs in case (more like when) mobilization orders are issued.

In his letter, Anderson emphasised that forces were already ‘engaged in operations connected to Iran’ and that any mass mobilization ‘could become reality,’ language that caught many readers off guard. They took to Reddit, hoping that someone would answer their questions.
The document’s phrasing, particularly the line “When the call comes, readiness will be assumed, not questioned,” struck a chord, because it implied the possibility that reservists could be activated without warning. On the subreddit r/USMC, Marines and veterans weighed in, with many admitting they were caught off guard.
There was a mix of reactions on both sides of this. There were those shocked by the letter. And then some understood that this is what you signed up for. A sample of Reddit posts shows the following:
- The hell is this… never been deployed, is this like a go fuck yourself before we start prep or something? So confused what the hell my leadership just sent me.
- That’s him (Anderson IV) telling you to get your ass in gear if you aren’t ready to mobilise and deploy.
- Your reason to fight is whatever the fuck our government wants. It’s literally in the contract you signed.
- You’re going to the sandbox, Devil. This is what you stood on those yellow footprints for.
- Gear and fitness aside, probably best use of time is for them to get their personal affairs in order. Nothing is a bigger distraction from the mission for any individual than a lingering obligation back home that is unresolved.

Most comments felt the letter was alarmist. Many framed it like a blunt wake‑up call that the Iran conflict is escalating into something much bigger and more serious. You would have thought that these guys watched the news or followed this conflict, especially since they are Marine reservists. Obviously, it is escalating. That is no-brainer.
As one comment put their fear in simple terms, ‘This is worrying…’
Marine Reservists are part-time members of the US Marine Corps who have civilian lives but train regularly and can be called up during national emergencies. They are not usually the first sent into combat as active-duty Marines handle most operations. Reservists are activated when more manpower is needed, often supporting ongoing missions or providing replacements.
Their contracts require them to be ready to deploy if the country calls. While they can be sent to war, it usually happens after active-duty forces are deployed and when extra support is necessary. Reservists often train to keep their skills sharp so they can step in quickly if needed, but being ‘called up’ is always situation-dependent.
While everybody is analyzing and over-analyzing the letter, they are just wasting their time. Let Josh at SFL.media break it down for you. Here is why these reservists better be ready, and why this letter was sent.
- The Houthis from Yemen have entered the war…not good. Iran has an ally with boots on the ground.
- Russia was giving intelligence. Now they are actually supplying drone ammunition.
- Iran has bombed the sh*t out of a ton of US bases in the area.
- They just landed their biggest base hit days ago, causing major damage.
- They still completely control the Strait of Hormuz
- Iran publicly rejects President Trump’s 15-Point Peace Plan
Do I really need to go on and on? OK, how about one more? The morale of the troops that are already a part of this is dangerously low, due to lack of direction and the prolonged deployment that they know is written on the “Wailing Wall”.
