Bobrovsky’s 28 Saves Lift Panthers Past Bruins 2–1, Florida Avoids Playoff Elimination

The Florida Panthers kept their postseason hopes alive Thursday night with a determined defensive effort and timely scoring, edging the Boston Bruins 2–1 behind a standout performance from goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky.

Facing playoff elimination, the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions delivered one of their most resilient performances of the postseason. Bobrovsky turned aside 28 shots—including 15 in a tense third period—to help Florida secure its second straight victory and extend its season.

Florida wasted little time setting the tone. Rookie forward Mackie Samoskevich continued his recent scoring surge by opening the scoring in the first period. After intercepting a pass deep in the offensive zone, Samoskevich snapped a wrist shot past Boston goaltender Jeremy Swayman for his third goal in as many games, giving the Panthers an early boost.

Just minutes later, Sam Bennett doubled the advantage. Positioned in the slot, Bennett buried a clean scoring chance at the 7:39 mark of the first period to put Florida ahead 2–0 and energize the home bench.

Boston responded before the period ended. With 27 seconds remaining in the opening frame, Fraser Minten capitalized on a loose puck near the goal line. After two Bruins attempts created a scramble in front, Minten gathered the puck on his backhand and slipped it past a sprawling Bobrovsky to cut the deficit to 2–1 and shift momentum heading into intermission.

From there, the game tightened considerably. The Bruins who entered the night riding a four-game winning streak pressed hard in the third period, generating sustained offensive-zone pressure. But Bobrovsky delivered when Florida needed him most, calmly turning aside quality chances from close range and controlling rebounds to preserve the narrow lead.

Swayman finished with 22 saves for Boston, which threatened late but couldn’t solve Bobrovsky again.

Florida’s quick start mirrored its offensive burst from Tuesday’s 6–3 win over the Ottawa Senators, when the Panthers scored five goals in the opening period. This time, however, the story was their ability to protect an early lead under playoff pressure.

With the victory, the Panthers avoided elimination and kept their championship defense alive heading into a critical stretch run.

The Bruins travel to face the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday. The Panthers head to take on the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday as they continue their push to stay alive in the postseason.
