Hit-and-Run Involving Amazon Delivery Driver
An Amazon delivery driver was injured in a hit-and-run crash in west Miami-Dade after being struck by a passing vehicle while making a package delivery, according to authorities. Surveillance video captured the moment the driver stepped out of her delivery truck and was hit by a car that continued driving without stopping.
Surveillance Video Shows the Crash
The incident occurred along Southwest 20th Street near 140th Place in west Miami-Dade County. Video from the area shows the driver exiting her delivery truck before a vehicle traveling down the street struck her. The impact sent packages flying across the roadway while the driver fell to the ground. Debris from the delivery was scattered throughout the street as the vehicle that hit her drove away. A nearby resident who arrived shortly after the crash described seeing the aftermath, including the injured driver lying on the ground while packages were spread across the roadway. “I see the package in the middle of the street broken, her hat in the other side and her laying on the ground not able to move,” a witness said. The witness added that the driver appeared to be moving her hands while on the ground, possibly trying to reach for a phone or signal for help.
Neighborhood Safety Concerns
Residents in the neighborhood say speeding has long been a concern on that stretch of road. Some neighbors said they have previously raised complaints about drivers traveling too fast through the residential area. Several residents said requests have been made in the past to install speed bumps in the area in hopes of slowing traffic and preventing crashes. The hit-and-run has renewed concerns among neighbors who say the street can be dangerous for pedestrians, cyclists, and delivery workers who frequently stop along the road.
Investigation Ongoing
Authorities are now searching for the driver responsible for the crash. Leaving the scene of a crash involving injuries can carry serious criminal penalties under Florida law. The injured delivery driver was later reported to be recovering at home after receiving medical care. Amazon said it is aware of the incident and is cooperating with investigators while supporting the driver during her recovery. “We’re relieved the driver is okay and recovering at home while receiving care,” the company said in a statement. Despite the crash, deliveries have continued along the same route. Other delivery drivers were seen working in the area days later, including stopping near the same location where the incident occurred. Authorities continue to investigate the hit-and-run and are asking anyone with information about the driver involved to contact law enforcement.
