Brewers Take a Commanding 3-0 Lead in the World Series
The Milwaukee Brewers moved to the brink of their first World Series championship with a dominant 10-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 3 on Monday night at Tropicana Field, taking a commanding 3-0 lead in the best of seven series.
Milwaukee combined a powerful offensive outburst with a stellar pitching performance from Robert Gasser to put the Rays on the verge of elimination. The Brewers broke through for the game’s first runs in the third inning before erupting for eight runs in the fifth, turning a competitive start into a one sided affair.
Jackson Chourio led Milwaukee’s offensive attack with four hits, two runs scored, a double and an RBI. The Brewers received contributions throughout the lineup, with Christian Yelich, William Contreras, Brice Turang, Garrett Mitchell, Cooper Pratt, Sal Frelick and Hamilton all helping fuel the decisive victory. With the win, Milwaukee is one victory away from capturing the World Series title, while Tampa Bay must win four consecutive games to keep its championship hopes alive.
Gasser Dominates as Brewers Control the Game
Gasser delivered an outstanding performance on the mound, holding Tampa Bay to one hit over six innings. He struck out three batters, walked one and kept the Rays’ offense quiet throughout his outing. His ability to limit baserunners gave Milwaukee’s offense time to build a comfortable lead, while the Brewers’ defense and pitching staff prevented Tampa Bay from mounting a serious challenge.
Freddy Peralta started for the Rays but struggled to contain Milwaukee’s lineup. He allowed five runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out four over 4⅔ innings. The Brewers took advantage of scoring opportunities and repeatedly put pressure on Tampa Bay’s pitching staff.
Brewers Strike First in the Third
Milwaukee opened the scoring in the third inning when Yelich delivered a single to left field, bringing Chourio home and advancing Jake Bauers to second base. Contreras followed with a single to right field, scoring Bauers to extend the Brewers’ advantage.
Contreras was thrown out trying to stretch the hit into a double, but Milwaukee had established a two-run lead and seized control of the game. The Brewers continued to apply pressure in the fifth inning, producing an offensive explosion that effectively put the game out of reach.
Eight Run Fifth Inning Breaks Game Open
Milwaukee erupted for eight runs in the fifth inning, overwhelming the Rays and turning a 2-0 lead into a 10-0 advantage. Turang started the rally with an infield single to shortstop that brought home Chourio and Yelich while Contreras advanced to second base. Mitchell followed with a single to left field, scoring Contreras and moving Turang to second.
Pratt then doubled to left field, driving in Mitchell and Turang to extend the Brewers’ lead. Frelick added another double to left, scoring Pratt and keeping the rally going. Hamilton followed with a single to center field, bringing Frelick home. Chourio capped the remarkable inning with a double to right field that scored Hamilton, completing Milwaukee’s eight-run surge.
The Brewers sent a clear message with their offensive display, capitalizing on Tampa Bay’s pitching struggles and delivering timely hits throughout the lineup. Chourio’s four-hit performance highlighted an attack that proved too much for the Rays to handle.
Rays Avoid Shutout in the Ninth
Tampa Bay finally got on the scoreboard in the ninth inning when Diaz doubled to center field, bringing Mullins home to make it 10-1. The run prevented the Rays from being shut out, but it did little to change the outcome as Milwaukee secured the nine-run victory and moved within one win of the championship. The Rays now face an uphill battle, needing a remarkable comeback to keep their season alive. Milwaukee, meanwhile, has an opportunity to finish the series in four games.
Brewers One Win Away From World Series Championship
Game 4 is scheduled for Tuesday night at Tropicana Field, where Tampa Bay will attempt to avoid elimination and extend the series. Griffin Jax is slated to start for the Rays, while Milwaukee has not yet announced its starting pitcher.
The Brewers will look to carry their momentum into Game 4 and complete the sweep, while Tampa Bay must find answers against a Milwaukee team that has controlled the series on both sides of the ball. After a dominant 10-1 victory in Game 3, Milwaukee is firmly in the driver’s seat, standing just one win away from a World Series championship.
