Body Discovered in Dania Beach Canal; Investigation Underway

Dania Beach, FL — Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies are investigating after the body of an unidentified man was found floating in a canal in Dania Beach on Friday morning. The discovery has prompted an extensive investigation as authorities work to determine the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

Deputies were called to the canal off Southwest 43rd Terrace, just north of Griffin Road, around 11 a.m. after Department of Public Works employees, who were clearing debris, spotted what they initially thought was a mannequin. Upon closer inspection, they realized it was a body and immediately contacted the sheriff’s department.

When deputies arrived, they used a boat to access the canal and retrieve the body, which was found floating near a dock. Sky 10 aerial footage captured the scene, showing the man’s body dressed in colorful underwear and dark pants, but without a shirt. The Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office later transported the body after it was recovered and covered by dive team members on site.

A resident who lives near the canal, preferring to remain anonymous, commented on the unsettling discovery. “They thought it was a mannequin at first,” the resident said. “It’s pretty shocking for something like this to happen here.”

Investigators spent a significant amount of time documenting the scene before clearing the area. At this time, there has been no identification of the deceased, nor any information on the cause or duration of his time in the water.

Authorities have yet to release further details, and the investigation remains ongoing as they work to uncover what led to this tragic discovery. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
