Florida Atlantic Fends Off Texas State, 89-80, Behind Tre Carroll’s Stellar Bench Performance

Florida Atlantic University (FAU) secured an impressive 89-80 victory over Texas State on Saturday, snapping the Bobcats’ five-game winning streak. Tre Carroll delivered a standout performance off the bench, scoring a team-high 18 points on an efficient 7-of-9 shooting from the field and a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.

The Owls (7-5) demonstrated their depth as Niccolo Moretti contributed 15 points, shooting 4-of-6 from the floor and 6-of-7 from the charity stripe. Matas Vokietaitis added 13 points, including a pivotal 11 in the first half, as FAU took control late in the opening period and never relinquished the lead.

For Texas State (7-4), Tyler Morgan shone in defeat, tallying 19 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Tylan Pope provided a defensive spark with three blocks to go along with his 14 points, while Josh O’Garro came close to a double-double, finishing with 13 points and nine rebounds.

The first half saw back-and-forth action, with neither team gaining a significant edge until the closing seconds. Florida Atlantic gained momentum when Vokietaitis led a scoring surge, pushing the Owls to a 43-40 halftime advantage.

The second half belonged to the Owls, as Carroll and Moretti consistently made key plays to keep Texas State at bay. Despite the Bobcats’ efforts, including a strong push led by Morgan, FAU’s balanced offense and clutch free-throw shooting sealed the victory.

Florida Atlantic will look to build on this win when they travel to East Lansing to face Michigan State at the Breslin Center on Saturday, December 21. Texas State, meanwhile, will regroup as they aim to bounce back from this loss.

This win highlights the Owls’ ability to step up in tight games, showcasing their potential as the season progresses.
