Is Taylor Swift Releasing a Film at VIFF 2025? Here’s the Truth

VIFF Taylor Swift Rumor

Speculation erupted among Taylor Swift fans this week after the Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) posted a teaser on Instagram featuring a sparkly orange lock with the words, “…Ready for it? The #VIFF2025 full festival lineup will be revealed on August 27.” The lock, a color scheme, and even the wording all echoed Swift’s signature Easter egg style, prompting many to wonder if the singer-songwriter was preparing to debut a documentary or even her long-rumored feature film at the festival. That frenzy only intensified after Taylor Nation—the star’s official fan engagement account—playfully posted on X, “We can’t find the key! Lost it in Vancouver #TSTheLifeofaShowgirl.” Swifties quickly connected the dots and concluded that the singer was tied to VIFF’s October showcase.

But the speculation has now been firmly debunked. VIFF edited its own social media post to clarify the situation, stating: “There will be no Taylor Swift documentary debuting at VIFF. Earlier today we saw the viral TikTok video with the prediction and were honoured to even be in the Easter egg discussion. However, we’re so excited to show you what’s coming to #VIFF2025. Hope there’s no ‘Bad Blood.’” In other words, Swift will not be premiering any project—documentary, concert film, or directorial debut—at the 2025 festival. The official festival lineup will instead be unveiled on August 27, ahead of the October 2–12 event.

While Swift has been working on her directorial career—Searchlight Pictures confirmed in 2022 that she would be making her feature film debut—there have been no further updates or connections linking her project to VIFF. Her website currently highlights her directing work on music videos like “Anti-Hero,” “Fortnight,” and All Too Well: The Short Film, but nothing associated with the Vancouver festival. The bottom line is clear: despite the excitement stirred by Swift’s fanbase, there is no credible evidence she will be releasing any film at VIFF 2025. The rumors began with an ambiguous teaser and some well-timed Swiftian wordplay, but the festival itself has officially shut down the speculation. Fans will have to wait for August 27 to see what the actual lineup holds, but one thing is certain—Taylor Swift is not on the program.
