It Ain’t White Privilege… It’s Football Player Privilege

I’m pretty sure that the only reason this story is circulating is that the 2026 NFL Draft is about to take place. It actually kicks off on Thursday, April 23rd, and will go on throughout the weekend. The story centers around the University of Miami stud edge rusher Ruben Bain Jr. and the traffic incident that occurred in 2024. For some reason, this story has popped up. When things like this happen, it can be to hurt the player’s draft positioning or to create leverage for the team interested in drafting him to offer the player less money.

In March 2024, Ruben Bain Jr. was involved in a car accident at about 4 a.m. on Interstate 95 in Miami. His Land Rover rear-ended another car and hit concrete barriers, with three passengers, which included two teammates and a student named Destiny Betts.

Bain was initially cited for careless driving. After the initial citation for careless driving, the authorities decided not to pursue any criminal charges. So, essentially, they concluded there wasn’t enough evidence for a criminal case.

Destiny Betts was in a coma for nearly three months after the crash. She passed away on June 13, 2024, due to her injuries.

Bain Jr. is expected to be a top-10 pick in this draft. He had an outstanding career at the University of Miami, emerging as one of the top defensive players in college football.

Over his time there, he recorded 121 tackles, 33.5 tackles for loss, and 20.5 sacks. He was named the 2025 ACC Defensive Player of the Year, also winning the Ted Hendricks Award. He’s considered a top prospect for the 2026 NFL Draft, though concerns about his shorter arm length have led to mixed assessments.

It is very interesting that Bain Jr. got off here. To have no charges filed truly says a lot. So much for the “white privilege.” Bain Jr. is black if you haven’t figured that out yet. But what we can say is that he has serious “football player privilege.” There is a lot of money coming his way, along with a future in the NFL. The powers that be aren’t going to let some “fender bender” where a young lady died get in the way. Absolutely not.
