New Costco on Highway 72 Celebrates Grand Opening
The much-anticipated Costco on Highway 72 officially opened its doors to the public on Friday, drawing an enthusiastic crowd of shoppers eager to experience the wholesale giant’s newest location.
The grand opening kicked off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Costco executives, local officials, and community leaders. Hundreds of customers lined up early in the morning, some arriving hours before the doors opened to be among the first to explore the store.
Spanning over 150,000 square feet, the new Costco offers everything from bulk groceries and household essentials to electronics, clothing, and an in-store pharmacy. Shoppers were also excited to see a fully stocked food court serving popular items like $1.50 hot dog-and-drink combos and Costco’s famous pizza.
“This is a huge milestone for the community,” said Mayor Tommy Battle, who attended the opening ceremony. “Not only does Costco bring a new level of convenience and affordability to our residents, but it also creates jobs and boosts our local economy.”
The new location has already hired over 200 employees, with additional seasonal positions expected during the holiday shopping season.
Shoppers like Huntsville resident Carla Rodriguez were thrilled about the store’s arrival. “We’ve been driving to Birmingham or Nashville for years to shop at Costco. Having one right here in our backyard is a game-changer,” she said while filling her cart with organic produce and household goods.
The Highway 72 Costco also features a gas station, which drew significant attention during the opening day for its competitive fuel prices. Many customers cited this as one of their primary reasons for joining or renewing their Costco memberships.
Costco officials expressed gratitude for the warm reception and are optimistic about the store’s future success. “We are excited to become a part of this vibrant community,” said store manager Jeff Andrews. “Our goal is to provide top-quality products and exceptional service to all of our members.”
The opening comes just in time for the holiday shopping season, with Costco offering a wide selection of holiday decorations, gifts, and specialty foods. Membership sign-ups were brisk on opening day, as shoppers eagerly joined to take advantage of the store’s unique offerings and discounts.
The Costco on Highway 72 is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
