Marlins Cruise Past Cardinals 5-1 Behind Edwards’ Three Hits, Stowers’ RBI Surge

The Miami Marlins continued their dominant June run on Saturday night, defeating the St. Louis Cardinals 5-1 behind a balanced offensive attack, timely hitting, and another sharp pitching performance that extended their recent success in St. Louis.

Xavier Edwards led the way at the plate, finishing with three hits, while Kyle Stowers delivered two key RBI singles to pace Miami’s offense. The win pushed the Marlins to an impressive 18-5 mark in June and secured their first season series win over St. Louis since 2016.

Miami struck quickly, with Stowers driving in the game’s first two runs via RBI singles in the first and third innings. His second knock came on a sharp grounder that shortstop Masyn Winn could not cleanly field on a tricky one-bounce hop, allowing the Marlins to extend their early advantage.

The momentum continued in the fourth inning when Javier Sanoja and Edwards each added run-scoring singles, pushing the lead to 4-0 and putting the Cardinals on their heels early.

Otto López, the Major League batting leader, also contributed with a triple and an RBI single, raising his average to a stellar .336 as part of yet another productive night for Miami’s lineup.

Edwards capped his standout performance by doubling and scoring in the seventh inning, helping extend the Marlins’ cushion to 5-1 and effectively sealing the game.

St. Louis finally broke through later in the sixth inning when Masyn Winn delivered a one-out RBI single, snapping a remarkable stretch of 33 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings that Miami pitchers had compiled in St. Louis dating back to previous matchups.

The Marlins had shut out the Cardinals in their final two games at Busch Stadium last July and followed it up with a 4-0 win on Friday night before Saturday’s victory, continuing their recent dominance at the venue.

John King (6-1) earned the win out of the bullpen after 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief, helping preserve Miami’s early lead and maintain control through the middle frames.

For St. Louis starter Andre Pallante (9-5), the outing was a tough one. Bidding for his fifth straight win, he instead allowed five runs on a season-high 11 hits across 6 2/3 innings. He struck out four and walked just one but was ultimately undone by Miami’s consistent contact and situational hitting.

Despite the loss, the Cardinals collected seven hits—all singles—with JJ Wetherholt and Jordan Walker each recording two-hit performances, though they were unable to generate any extra-base damage or sustained rallies.

With the victory, Miami continues to build momentum deep into the summer stretch, combining timely offense with steady pitching depth. The Marlins’ ability to control the series against a strong Cardinals lineup also signals growing confidence as they push forward in the standings.

For St. Louis, the loss halts their attempt to swing momentum in the series, as Miami once again proved too sharp in key moments on both sides of the ball.
