Inter Miami CF extended its impressive unbeaten run to eight matches in the 2025 MLS regular season with a hard-fought 0-1 win on the road against the Columbus Crew. In front of a record-breaking crowd of 60,614 fans at Huntington Bank Field, the Herons moved momentarily to the top of the Eastern Conference standings and solidified their status as the league’s only remaining unbeaten team.
The match was defined by resolute defending, a moment of brilliance in attack, and a commanding performance from goalkeeper Óscar Ustari, who was named Royal Caribbean Icon of the Match after earning his second straight clean sheet.
The decisive moment came in the 30th minute. After a relatively quiet opening half-hour, Inter Miami sprang to life. Luis Suárez ignited the attack with a pinpoint long ball from midfield that found Marcelo Weigandt streaking down the right wing. Weigandt wasted no time, delivering a first-time cross into the box, where Academy product Benjamin Cremaschi met it with a diving header to put the visitors ahead. It marked Cremaschi’s first goal of the season and Weigandt’s first assist of the campaign.
Inter Miami’s starting XI was stacked with experience and youth alike: Ustari guarded the net behind a back four of Weigandt, Gonzalo Luján, Noah Allen, and veteran Jordi Alba. The midfield featured Sergio Busquets, Yannick Bright, Cremaschi, and Tadeo Allende, while global icons Lionel Messi and Suárez led the line.
Ustari came up big when it mattered most. His first standout moment arrived in the 29th minute when he denied Max Arfsten from close range, preserving the clean sheet just moments before Inter Miami took the lead. The Argentine shot-stopper continued to shine throughout the second half, making three key saves to secure all three points for the visitors.
The second half saw the Crew push forward in search of an equalizer, but Inter Miami’s disciplined shape and confident goalkeeping kept them at bay. Despite increased pressure, the Herons held firm to grind out a statement win on the road.
With this result, Inter Miami not only preserved its unbeaten record but also temporarily claimed the top spot in the East. The team will now turn its attention to continental competition, heading north to face the Vancouver Whitecaps this Thursday, April 24, in the first leg of the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup semifinals.
The Herons continue to show they are contenders not just in MLS, but on the international stage — a team blending star power, homegrown talent, and growing confidence as the season rolls on.
