Miami Hurricanes Set School Records in 77-7 Blowout of Florida A&M

No. 7 Miami Offense Makes History

No. 7 Miami delivered a dominant performance in Week 2, overwhelming Florida A&M 77-7 on Thursday night while rewriting several records in the process. The Hurricanes finished with 856 total yards, breaking the previous school record of 750 yards set against Ball State in 2024. Miami also matched the school record for points in a game with 77, a mark the Hurricanes had previously reached twice against Savannah State.

The rout became so lopsided that both teams agreed to shorten the fourth quarter from 15 minutes to 10. By the time the fourth quarter began, Miami already led 77-0. Miami finished the night with 42 first downs, another school record, as its offense repeatedly moved the ball with ease against Florida A&M.

Mensah Continues Impressive Miami Start

Quarterback Darian Mensah was nearly flawless, completing 14 of 15 passes for 252 yards and three touchdowns, all of which came in the first half. Through his first two games as a Hurricane, Mensah has completed 41 of 45 passes for 653 yards and eight touchdowns, giving Miami plenty of reason for optimism about its new quarterback.

Luke Nickeleach also threw three touchdown passes as Miami’s quarterback duo combined to keep the Florida A&M defense under constant pressure. Miami scored touchdowns on 11 of its first 12 possessions. The only exception was a one-play possession at the end of the first half, when the Hurricanes simply took a knee to run out the clock.

Miami’s Offense Spreads the Wealth

The Hurricanes received contributions from virtually every part of their offense. Javian Mallory and Mark Fletcher Jr. each rushed for two touchdowns, while Malachi Toney caught four passes for 96 yards and was one of six Miami receivers to record a touchdown reception.

Miami’s passing attack was particularly balanced, with 16 different players catching at least one pass. According to the game statistics, that marked the first time an FBS team had 16 pass-catchers in a game since Penn State had 17 against Ohio in 2022. The depth and explosiveness of Miami’s offense were on full display as the Hurricanes piled up yards and points throughout the night.

Florida A&M Gets Late Score

Florida A&M struggled to generate offense against Miami for most of the game, but the Rattlers finally got on the scoreboard late. Caleb McKenzie returned a fumble 72 yards for a touchdown with 6:40 remaining, preventing Miami from completing a shutout and making the final score 77-7.

Despite the late score, the game had long been decided as Miami’s offense and defense controlled the contest from the opening kickoff.

Miami Moves to 2-0

The Hurricanes improved to 2-0 with the victory and enter the next stage of their schedule with significant momentum. The offensive production against Florida A&M provided another statement from a Miami team looking to establish itself as one of the nation’s top programs. Miami will now turn its attention to conference play and a road matchup against Wake Forest.

Week 2 Action for Both Schools

Florida A&M, now 1-2, will return home to host Tennessee State on Sept. 19. Miami will travel to face Wake Forest on Sept. 18 as the Hurricanes continue their 2026 campaign.
