Memphis Hairstylist Attacked in Her Home After Payment Dispute; Suspect in Custody

Memphis Hairstylist Attacked By Client

A Memphis hairstylist was brutally attacked in her home after a disagreement with a client over payment for a braid service. The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Stephanie Samuels, is now in custody and facing multiple charges, including aggravated assault, according to court records.

The Incident

The altercation occurred on Sunday evening when hairstylist Tanisha Brown, 27, provided a braiding service to Samuels at Brown’s home-based salon in North Memphis. According to Brown, after completing the intricate braid style, Samuels refused to pay the agreed-upon price, claiming dissatisfaction with the work.

Brown asked Samuels to leave when the argument escalated, but Samuels reportedly became aggressive. “She said she wasn’t going to pay, and I told her that was fine, but she needed to leave my home,” Brown recounted. “That’s when she started attacking me.”

According to police, Samuels struck Brown multiple times before grabbing a pair of scissors from Brown’s workstation and threatening her with them. Brown managed to escape and call 911 as the altercation continued.

Arrest and Charges

When officers arrived, Samuels was still on the property and was taken into custody without further incident. She now faces charges of aggravated assault, criminal trespassing, and theft of services.

“This is an incredibly serious case,” said Officer Erica Lang of the Memphis Police Department. “Attacking someone in their own home over a payment dispute is beyond unacceptable, and we are committed to seeking justice for the victim.”

Impact on the Victim

Brown sustained minor injuries during the assault and is shaken by the ordeal. “I never thought something like this would happen in my own home,” she said. “I’m just trying to provide for my family, and now I’m scared to even take clients.”
