Miami Hurricanes Snap 10-Game Losing Streak With 63-57 Win Over Notre Dame

The Miami Hurricanes finally broke through on Saturday night, snapping a 10-game losing streak with a hard-fought 63-57 victory over Notre Dame. The win also ended Miami’s 20-game skid against ACC opponents, marking the programs first conference victory in nearly a year.

Matthew Cleveland delivered a stellar performance, scoring 21 points to lead the Hurricanes (5-17, 1-10 ACC). Lynn Kidd provided a dominant inside presence, adding 15 points on an efficient 7-of-9 shooting. Miami’s last ACC win came on Feb. 3, 2024, against Virginia Tech, making Saturday’s triumph a long-awaited moment for the program.

Interim head coach Bill Courtney, who took over after Jim Larranaga’s resignation on Dec. 26, secured his first win at the helm. The Hurricanes showed resilience after trailing for most of the game, using a late surge to claim victory.

Cleveland hit a contested baseline jumper with 6:10 remaining to give Miami its first lead since the opening minutes at 55-53. Notre Dame’s Tae Davis responded with a dunk to tie the game at 59-all with 3:40 left, but Miami never relinquished control from that point. Kidd split a pair of free throws 19 seconds later to put the Hurricanes back in front, and Notre Dame faltered down the stretch.

Notre Dame (10-11, 4-6 ACC) had opportunities in the final minutes but failed to capitalize. The Irish went 0-for-3 from the field, missed all three free-throw attempts, and committed two costly turnovers in the closing three minutes.

Markus Burton led Notre Dame with 17 points, while Braeden Shrewsberry and Tae Davis contributed 14 and 11 points, respectively.

Miami’s Brandon Johnson played a key role with 13 points and eight rebounds, while the Hurricanes tied their season low with just six turnovers, a critical factor in securing the victory.

Notre Dame will look to bounce back when it visits Florida State on Tuesday. Miami, meanwhile, gets a week to regroup before hitting the road to face Louisville next Saturday.

This long-awaited ACC win provides a much-needed morale boost for the Hurricanes as they try to build momentum for the rest of the season.
