A Howell, New Jersey family has captured the attention of their community by building an impressive igloo in their front yard. The icy structure, crafted entirely from handmade ice blocks, has transformed the snowy landscape into a playful winter retreat. The project took about a week to complete and has quickly become a local landmark, attracting neighbors and passersby eager to see the unique creation.
Building With Ice Blocks
Kelly Grobelny led the ambitious project, using roughly 200 ice blocks created in tin trays to form the igloo. The blocks were carefully stacked and shaped into a recognizable dome, with colored ice and interior lights adding a magical glow at night. The structure measures several feet in diameter and stands tall enough for family members to sit comfortably inside.
A Cozy Winter Space
Inside, the Grobelny family has made the igloo cozy with blankets and seating, creating a small retreat for themselves and their children. Five-year-old Lyla described the space as “fun and magical,” noting the colorful ice and lights that make the interior feel warm despite the frigid temperatures.

Neighbors have flocked to admire and photograph the icy creation. One local school bus driver stopped mid-route to take in the sight, reflecting the widespread fascination with the igloo.
