Senators Rout Panthers 5-1 as Brady Tkachuk Faces Hostile Reception in Ottawa Return

Ottawa Senators Dominate Florida Panthers in Emotional Reunion

The Ottawa Senators delivered a convincing 5-1 victory over the Florida Panthers on Wednesday night, spoiling Brady Tkachuk’s return to Ottawa with a hostile reception that included boos, derisive chants and fans throwing jerseys onto the ice.

Tkachuk, who spent eight seasons with the Senators, including five as captain, was greeted with chants of “We don’t need you!” throughout the game as he faced his former team for the first time in Florida’s colors. Despite the hostile atmosphere, the Panthers forward appeared unfazed, opening the scoring with a first period power-play goal set up by his brother, Matthew Tkachuk.

Brady Tkachuk’s goal was the lone bright spot for Florida, which fell to 5-3-2 after seeing its three game winning streak come to an end. Ottawa responded with five unanswered goals to secure the victory and improve its position early in the season.

Senators Rally Behind Stutzle, Giroux and Pinto

Florida struck first midway through the opening period when Brady Tkachuk converted a power-play opportunity off a feed from his brother. Ottawa answered just over four minutes later, as Tim Stutzle buried a one-timer off a pass from Jake Sanderson to tie the game.

The Senators took control in the second period with two goals to build a 3-1 advantage. Claude Giroux put Ottawa ahead midway through the period, scoring his second goal of the season from the top of the slot through traffic. Shane Pinto extended the lead at 17:18, putting the Senators firmly in command heading into the third.

Ottawa continued to apply pressure in the final period. Warren Foegele made it 4-1 at the eight-minute mark, finishing a well placed feed from Dylan Cozens. Stephen Halliday capped the scoring by converting Stutzle’s drop pass to give the Senators a four goal victory. Goaltender Akira Schmid made 25 saves for Ottawa, helping the Senators contain a Florida team that had entered the game riding a three game winning streak.

Emotions Boil Over in Third Period

The intensity of Tkachuk’s return escalated in the third period as tempers flared in front of Ottawa’s bench. Brady Tkachuk, his brother Matthew and Panthers teammate Sam Bennett became involved in a confrontation with Senators players, with Brady Tkachuk engaging in a heated exchange with Ottawa center Dylan Cozens.

Earlier in the period, Bennett fought Senators forward Ridly Greig, adding to an increasingly physical contest. The confrontations reflected the emotions surrounding Brady Tkachuk’s return after years as one of Ottawa’s most recognizable players.

The hostile reception extended beyond the chants and boos, with several fans throwing Tkachuk jerseys onto the ice. Despite the crowd’s reaction, he managed to score Florida’s only goal before the Senators pulled away.

Ullmark Leaves Game With Apparent Injury

Ottawa also faced a concern in goal when Linus Ullmark left the game early in the third period with an apparent injury. Ullmark had stopped 17 of the 18 shots he faced before making a pad save on Brady Tkachuk. He then required assistance to get off the ice. Sam Ersson entered in relief and faced one shot as the Senators maintained their commanding lead. Ottawa will monitor Ullmark’s condition following his early exit.

Next Hockey Games for the Panthers and Senators

The Panthers will look to bounce back Thursday when they visit the Pittsburgh Penguins, while the Senators return home to host the San Jose Sharks. Florida will aim to regroup after its winning streak ended, while Ottawa will seek to carry the momentum from an emotionally charged victory into its next matchup.
