Sports Reporter Found Dead in New Orleans Could’ve Been Drugged, Police Say

What happened to Adan Manzano?

Adan Manzano, a 27-year-old sports reporter for Telemundo Kansas City and Tico Sports, was found dead in his hotel room in Kenner, Louisiana, on February 5, 2025, while covering the Super Bowl. Originally from Mexico City, Manzano moved to Topeka, Kansas, in 2018 and graduated from Kansas State University. He joined Telemundo Kansas City in April 2021 and had recently become a sideline reporter for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Tragically, his death occurred nearly a year after his wife, Ashleigh LeeAnn Boyd, was killed in a car accident in April 2024. The couple left behind their young daughter, Eleanor.

Authorities have not yet determined the cause of Manzano’s death, pending further tests, but noted there were no obvious signs of trauma. A woman named Danette Colbert, 48, has been arrested and charged with fraud and theft-related offenses after allegedly using Manzano’s credit card and being seen on hotel security footage entering his room with him. Colbert has a history of similar offenses, including allegations of drugging men and committing financial crimes. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities exploring the possibility that Manzano may have been drugged before his death.

Manzano was remembered by colleagues as a dedicated professional and a rising star in sports journalism. Steve Downing, general manager of Telemundo Kansas City, stated, “He wanted to be the best parent that he could be, especially under the circumstances of having to … .”

His untimely passing has left the community mourning the loss of a passionate reporter and devoted father.
