Why Al Roker Left ‘Today’ Show Mid-Broadcast

Al Roker abruptly left the Today show during Monday morning’s broadcast, prompting viewers to wonder why the longtime weatherman suddenly disappeared from the program. The reason turned out to be much more routine than some viewers may have expected.

Roker appeared on the September 28 broadcast several times to deliver the weather forecast before stepping away from the show. Savannah Guthrie told viewers that Roker had to leave early, while Dylan Dreyer took over his weather duties for the remainder of the broadcast.

Roker Reveals Why He Left

Roker later explained the reason for his early departure in a video posted from outside a courthouse.

“Well, got out of the Today show early because I’ve got jury duty,” Roker said, explaining that he was required to report for jury service.

Roker also joked about the situation, pointing out that he had used the word “duty” twice. He captioned the post, “Hey now!!! All rise!! Time for #juryduty.”

Dylan Dreyer Filled In

With Roker required to report for jury duty, Dreyer stepped in to handle the weather coverage for the remainder of the broadcast.

The change was presented as a temporary adjustment rather than a permanent change to Roker’s role on the morning program.

Roker Expected Back Tuesday

Craig Melvin later reassured viewers that Roker would return to the show the following day.

Roker’s early departure was therefore related to his jury service rather than an announced change to his position on the program. His explanation also put to rest speculation among viewers who noticed that he had suddenly disappeared from the broadcast.
