Bam Adebayo’s Buzzer-Beater Lifts Heat Over Spurs, 105-103

Bam Adebayo delivered in the clutch, sinking a 19-foot jumper as time expired to lift the Miami Heat to a thrilling 105-103 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday night. Adebayo capped a dominant performance with 30 points, 13 rebounds, and the game-winning shot, securing Miami’s third win in four games.

With the game tied in the final seconds, Spurs veteran Chris Paul attempted to create a last-second shot opportunity, but his 19-footer fell short with five seconds remaining. Miami secured the rebound, and Adebayo capitalized, pulling up from the top of the key and draining the buzzer-beater to stun San Antonio. The Heat big man was efficient all night, shooting 13-for-21 from the field while also grabbing nine defensive rebounds.

Heat guard Terry Rozier contributed 19 points in his first game since being named in a federal investigation into unusual betting patterns surrounding his performances while with the Charlotte Hornets in March 2023. Rozier played 33 minutes, connecting on 5-of-9 attempts from three-point range and 7-of-14 overall from the field.

Nikola Jovic added 14 points for Miami, while Jaime Jaquez Jr. chipped in 10. The Heat showed balance on offense, but it was Adebayo who carried the team down the stretch.

For the Spurs, Keldon Johnson led with 19 points, and Devin Vassell added 18. Charles Bassey stepped up in the absence of rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama, finishing with nine points and 15 rebounds. However, San Antonio struggled to capitalize on key opportunities late in the game.

Spurs fans were disappointed as Wembanyama, recently selected to his first All-Star Game as a Western Conference reserve, was ruled out just 40 minutes before tip-off due to an undisclosed illness. It was the sixth game the rookie phenom has missed this season. His absence left a void in the paint, with Zach Collins struggling in his role, managing just two points and two rebounds.

Rozier found his shooting rhythm, contributing efficiently from deep. Adebayo was dominant on both ends, proving why he remains Miami’s most reliable star.

San Antonio’s struggles without Wembanyama continued, despite a solid night from Johnson. Paul’s late-game shot selection proved costly, and the teams defensive effort fell short in the final moments.

The Spurs now embark on their annual lengthy road trip as the Frost Bank Center hosts the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo. Their next true home game isn’t until March 2, though they will host two games in Austin on Feb. 20 and 21.

Next up, Miami will travel to face the Chicago Bulls on Tuesday night, while the Spurs look to bounce back when they visit the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday.

Adebayo’s clutch performance serves as a reminder of his importance to Miami’s playoff hopes, and if he continues playing at this level, the Heat could make a serious push in the Eastern Conference.
