Cheerios Adds Resealable Ziploc Bags
Cheerios is introducing new cereal packaging featuring a resealable Ziploc bag designed to make storing cereal easier and help maintain freshness after opening. The new design comes from a partnership between General Mills, the maker of Cheerios, and Ziploc.
Called Cheerios with Ziploc PantrySeal, the packaging features a resealable closure inside a traditional cereal box. The design allows consumers to pour cereal and seal the bag afterward without needing clips, rubber bands or separate storage containers. The new packaging launched on October 27, 2026, initially through Walmart.com. Original Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios are included in the first release, with broader retail availability planned for the coming months.
How the New Cheerios Packaging Works
The PantrySeal design replaces the traditional inner cereal bag with a resealable closure intended to make opening, pouring and storing cereal more convenient. Consumers can open the bag, pour cereal into a bowl and reseal the package after use. The closure is designed to help keep cereal fresh between servings while reducing the need to fold or roll the bag closed. The packaging addresses a common frustration for cereal consumers: keeping an opened bag securely closed inside the box.
Why General Mills Is Changing Cheerios Packaging
General Mills said the new design responds to customer feedback about cereal bags that are difficult to close after opening. The company cited a December 2025 survey conducted by Suzy that found 90% of surveyed cereal consumers take additional steps to preserve freshness. These steps include folding the bag, rolling it, using clips or transferring cereal into separate containers. By incorporating resealable packaging directly into the cereal box, General Mills aims to simplify food storage and improve the everyday consumer experience.
Where to Buy Cheerios With Ziploc PantrySeal
The new packaging debuted online at Walmart.com on October 27, 2026. Original Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios are the first two varieties to feature the design. General Mills plans to expand availability to retailers nationwide in the coming months. Prices and availability may vary by retailer. Consumers can check Walmart’s website for current product availability.
What the New Packaging Means for Consumers
The Cheerios and Ziploc partnership introduces a packaging change without altering the cereal itself. The focus is on making breakfast preparation and food storage more convenient while helping consumers keep opened cereal bags closed. The initial rollout is limited to original Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios. Whether General Mills will extend the resealable design to additional cereal varieties has not been confirmed.
