Man Shot Dead Outside Hialeah Apartment Complex in Apparent Random Attack; Suspect Arrested
A quiet early morning in Hialeah turned deadly Wednesday when gunfire erupted outside an apartment complex, leaving a man in his 50s dead on the sidewalk and residents shaken by what police are calling a possible random act of violence. Authorities say the suspect, identified as 37-year-old Dairon Rosas Delgado, was later located and arrested after a traffic stop elsewhere in the city.
“It sounded like a rifle, and a woman started screaming, ‘No, no, no.’”
Shooting Reported Just After Dawn
According to Hialeah police, officers responded to the 1900 block of West 56th Street, just east of the Palmetto Expressway, shortly after 6:15 a.m. following calls from neighbors who reported hearing up to 10 gunshots. When officers arrived, they found a man, described as being in his 50s, lying on the sidewalk with fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Relatives told local reporters the victim had been on his way to work when he was shot. Police have not yet publicly released the victim’s identity.
Residents Describe Chaos and Fear
Witnesses described a terrifying scene as the shooting unfolded in what is normally a quiet residential area. One neighbor said the gunman appeared to run back into the apartment complex after firing, while another resident reported hearing a woman screaming moments after the shots rang out.
“I’ve been living here since 2001 and I’ve never heard of something so sad like this.”
The incident left many residents frightened, with some saying the sudden violence shattered their sense of safety in the neighborhood. Aerial footage later showed police and SWAT teams surrounding the complex while investigators secured the crime scene. The victim’s body remained covered with a tarp as detectives began canvassing the area.
Suspect Arrested After Traffic Stop
Police said investigators quickly identified Rosas Delgado as a suspect. He was taken into custody after being stopped while driving near West Fourth Avenue and West 18th Street in Hialeah. Authorities said he lives in an apartment complex across from where the shooting occurred. Detectives currently believe the attack may have been random, though they emphasized that the motive remains under investigation.
Investigation Ongoing
Hialeah Police spokesperson Eddie Rodriguez said detectives are continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses in an effort to determine why the victim was targeted. Anyone with information is urged to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477. The shooting adds to ongoing concerns about gun violence across South Florida, where residents increasingly say unpredictable acts of violence are disrupting daily routines even during ordinary moments like heading to work or preparing breakfast at home.
