Lauderhill Vice Mayor Richard Campbell Arrested on Domestic Battery and Felony Witness-Tampering Charges
LAUDERHILL, Fla. — Lauderhill Vice Mayor Richard Campbell was arrested Monday on domestic battery and felony witness tampering charges stemming from allegations involving a former girlfriend, placing a sitting Broward County elected official in an active criminal case just months before the November municipal election. Former Girlfriend Accuses Campbell of Domestic Violence

Campbell acknowledged that the two had been in a relationship but disputed the allegations and described a deteriorating domestic situation in which he believed the woman should have left their shared residence months earlier.
Campbell pointed to his long history in the community as part of his public defense, telling Local 10 that he had been in the area for approximately 35 years without previously encountering an accusation like this. Grant declined to comment directly on Campbell’s arrest when approached by reporters, but she addressed his absence during Monday’s commission meeting by leading a prayer for him. NBC 6 reported that Grant asked for protection and peace for Campbell, while Caribbean National Weekly reported that she referred to him as both a colleague and friend and prayed that he would receive the support and wisdom necessary to navigate the situation.
The response underscored the unusual position facing city government. Campbell remains a member of the commission and vice mayor while simultaneously becoming a defendant in a criminal proceeding involving allegations of domestic violence and witness interference.
Campbell Has a Long History in Lauderhill Government and Community Organizations
Campbell’s political and professional history extends well beyond his current vice-mayoral position. The City of Lauderhill describes him as a longtime community advocate, healthcare professional and civic leader with more than 35 years of combined experience in healthcare, child welfare, sports and charitable organizations. He is a licensed physical therapist and chief executive of RICHAB Physical Therapy and previously worked as a juvenile justice counselor in Florida, a social worker in New York and a physical education and Spanish teacher in Jamaica.
Campbell has also been heavily involved in youth sports through the Caribbean Americas Soccer Association, where the city says he has served as president for years. He previously served on the Lauderhill City Commission from 2018 through 2020 before returning to elected office.
