Local Organization Collecting Aid for Venezuela: How You Can Help Earthquake Survivors

Aid for Venezuela Earthquake

More than 750 volunteers have joined a growing humanitarian effort to help survivors of the devastating earthquakes that struck northern Venezuela, as relief organizations continue working to deliver emergency assistance to thousands of families affected by one of the country’s deadliest natural disasters in more than a century.

The powerful back to back earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24 caused widespread destruction across Caracas, La Guaira, Carabobo, Aragua, and neighboring regions. Entire neighborhoods suffered collapsed buildings, damaged hospitals, destroyed infrastructure, and prolonged power outages, leaving tens of thousands of residents displaced and in urgent need of food, clean water, shelter, and medical care. Rescue crews continue searching for survivors while international aid organizations race to provide lifesaving assistance.

Communities across the United States are stepping up to help. More than 750 volunteers recently participated in humanitarian relief efforts by sorting donations, packing emergency supplies, and preparing shipments destined for Venezuela. Their work is helping ensure desperately needed resources reach communities facing an ongoing humanitarian crisis.

Among the organizations responding is Team Rubicon, a veteran-led disaster response nonprofit that has activated its Emergency Operations Center and is preparing medical response teams for deployment if requested by Venezuelan authorities. The organization is coordinating logistics, staging equipment, and assembling healthcare professionals trained in emergency medicine, trauma care, pediatric care, and disaster response.

Humanitarian experts say that while many people want to donate clothing or household items, financial contributions remain the fastest and most effective way to help disaster survivors. Cash donations allow relief organizations to purchase supplies locally, respond to changing needs, reduce shipping delays, and avoid logistical challenges associated with transporting donated goods internationally. Organizations on the ground can quickly obtain essentials such as clean drinking water, emergency food supplies, hygiene kits, medications, temporary shelter materials, and medical equipment.

The United Nations has also launched an emergency appeal to support the growing humanitarian response. Funding is being used to provide emergency shelter, healthcare, sanitation, clean water, nutrition assistance, and protection services for families displaced by the disaster. Humanitarian agencies warn that recovery efforts will require sustained international support as communities begin the long process of rebuilding.

Those interested in helping have several ways to make a meaningful difference:

• Donate to established disaster relief organizations actively responding in Venezuela.

• Volunteer with experienced humanitarian organizations that deploy trained disaster response teams.

• Share verified fundraising campaigns from reputable nonprofits to help expand community support.

• Encourage workplaces, schools, civic organizations, and faith groups to organize fundraising drives for earthquake relief.

Disaster response specialists also caution donors to avoid unverified online fundraising campaigns. Before making a contribution, experts recommend confirming that an organization has experience responding to international disasters and is a registered nonprofit. Established humanitarian organizations are generally better equipped to move resources quickly and efficiently into disaster zones.

Although emergency rescue operations remain the immediate priority, humanitarian organizations say recovery will continue for months, if not years. Rebuilding homes, restoring healthcare services, repairing infrastructure, and supporting displaced families will require continued international cooperation long after the headlines fade.

For many volunteers, helping earthquake survivors is a reminder that local action can have a global impact. Every donated dollar, volunteer hour, and shared resource contributes to providing hope for families working to rebuild their lives after an unprecedented disaster.
