North Carolina to Charge Adults Who Stood By Planned Teen Melee That Turned Into Mass Shooting

If you didn’t know it, we now live in a society here in the United States, where nobody really gives a sh*t about anyone or anything. They will watch people dying in the street. They will step over people who need help. And they will break out their smartphones to film the most violent of fights so that they can shout “Worldstar” when filming.

Now, this is most common in big cities. And honestly, it’s even more common in the ghetto. This story out of North Carolina is exactly what I am talking about. It’s sad and tragic. But surprising, it is not.

So What Happened in North Carolina?

At Leinbach Park, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, a deadly incident occurred on the morning of April 20th when what started as a planned fight between teenagers escalated into a mass shooting. According to police, groups of young people had agreed to meet at the park to settle a dispute.

During the confrontation, multiple individuals (cowards) began firing guns, turning the situation chaotic and deadly. The shooting took place in broad daylight, near 10am. And by the time police arrived, several had been shot, and others were fleeing the scene.

The violence resulted in boys, ages 16 and 17, being killed, and five others, mostly teenagers, being injured. The wounds range from minor to critical. Authorities indicated that some of those who were injured may have also been involved in the gunfire, suggesting it was not a single shooter but rather an exchange of shots among multiple participants. No sh*t. Great investigating. Obviously, it was multiple shooters. It was a planned showdown.

Has Anyone Been Arrested?

As of the latest reports, investigations were ongoing, with no immediate arrests confirmed, and community leaders expressed concern about rising youth violence and unsupervised gatherings contributing to such tragedies

Early on, no suspects were in custody, even though authorities had identified and located several people connected to the incident. Since then, there have been developments, but no traditional murder charges against a shooter (at least publicly so far).

Police indicated they are not actively searching for additional suspects, suggesting they know who was involved. At least one arrest was made, but it was for a separate charge (felony child abuse) tied to the situation, not specifically for firing a gun.

What makes this case a little more interesting is that the authorities said they plan to charge adults who were present and allegedly allowed or encouraged the fight that led to the shooting. North Carolina authorities say they are pursuing criminal charges against adults who allegedly “stood by” at the fight among teenagers that led to the mass shooting that killed two and wounded five.

“We’re sending the message that if you stand by, encourage, aid or abet our juveniles in delinquent behavior, we will not tolerate it,” William H Penn, the Winston-Salem police chief, said in a joint video message on Tuesday alongside the local sheriff and district attorney.

With respect to Monday’s mass shooting in Winston-Salem, police said that the case was initially reported to them as a fight in progress at a public park.

Authorities said the two who were killed were identified as Erubey Romero Medina, 17, and Daniel Jimenez Millian, 16.

Meanwhile, four girls and one boy from ages 14 to 19 were wounded, with their injuries ranging from “critical to minor” in nature, police said.

Police said the investigation was ongoing, but made clear that they suspect “some of those injured may have also been involved in the shooting”.

“There were no other suspects being sought,” Penn said in his video on Tuesday, which he made alongside the sheriff, Bobby Kimbrough Jr, and the district attorney, Jim O’Neill. Penn added that there would also be “charges for the adults who stood by during this fight”.

“We will be charging those adults – although they are young adults, they’re adults,” Penn said in the video, without providing more details.

It’s not every day you have shootouts like this. Especially involving so many young people. It will be very interesting to see how they charge these young adults who stood by. It’s not the worst idea. We have seen accessory to the crime and aiding and abetting, so this isn’t exactly too far off from any of that.

Addendum to the story:

Two teenagers have been charged after a deadly mass shooting earlier this week, according to the Winston-Salem Police.

Joel Michael Gamble-Toliver, 18, was one of several people shot after a “planned fight” was charged. Investigators say Gamble-Toliver came to Leinbach Park knowing that a pre-arranged fight would happen and reportedly fought a male juvenile at the park. They also believe that Gamble-Toliver fired a gun during the fight.

Detectives charged Gamble-Toliver with felony child abuse and served outstanding, unrelated warrants. He was also charged with felony rioting. They also charged Steven Villanueva, 17, with felony inciting to riot on Thursday evening. Villanueva was charged as an adult.
