Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown appeared in a Miami courtroom Friday for the first time since being charged with attempted second-degree murder in connection with a shooting outside a celebrity boxing event last year. The hearing marked another significant step in the criminal case as Brown sought changes to the conditions of his pretrial release while livestreaming portions of his courthouse visit on social media.
Brown, who has pleaded not guilty, arrived at the Miami-Dade courthouse to comply with bond requirements that included being fitted with a GPS ankle monitor. Videos posted to his social media accounts showed him broadcasting parts of his appearance as he entered the courthouse and interacted with supporters.
Judge Approves Changes to House Arrest
During the hearing, a judge agreed to modify Brown’s house arrest conditions, allowing him greater flexibility while remaining under electronic monitoring. The revised terms permit him to leave his residence for approved activities, including work and meetings with his attorneys, while continuing to comply with court-ordered supervision.
Brown remains free on bond as the case moves through the court system. He is expected to continue following all release conditions while awaiting future hearings.
Case Stems From 2025 Boxing Event
The charges stem from an altercation that occurred outside a celebrity boxing event in Miami in May 2025. According to investigators, a dispute involving several people escalated into a physical confrontation before gunfire erupted outside the venue.
Authorities allege Brown retrieved a firearm during the incident and fired multiple shots at another man. Prosecutors say the victim suffered a graze wound to the neck and survived the shooting.
Police initially detained Brown at the scene but released him while detectives continued investigating. After reviewing surveillance video, cellphone footage, and witness statements, prosecutors later filed an attempted second-degree murder charge and obtained an arrest warrant.
Brown eventually returned to Florida to face the charge and has denied any criminal wrongdoing.
Defense Says Brown Acted in Self-Defense
Brown’s attorneys have consistently argued that he was attacked by multiple individuals and acted in self-defense during the confrontation. The defense maintains Brown never intended to kill anyone and disputes the prosecution’s version of events.
Prosecutors contend that the evidence collected during the investigation supports the attempted murder charge and are expected to continue presenting surveillance footage and witness testimony as the case proceeds.
Because the criminal proceedings remain ongoing, no trial date has yet been announced.
