Soccer Fan Earns Tickets
For most 10 year olds, earning a few dollars for household chores means buying candy, toys, or video games. For Valentino Sanabria Serna, every dollar represented one step closer to a lifelong dream.
The Boca Raton soccer fan spent four years saving money earned from doing chores around the house, eventually purchasing tickets to see his beloved Uruguay national team compete at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His story has become an inspiring example of patience, discipline, and the rewards of setting long-term goals.
A Dream Born During the Last World Cup
Valentino’s passion for soccer has been part of his life for as long as he can remember. After watching Uruguay compete during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, he made a promise to himself that he would attend the next tournament when it came to the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Rather than simply purchasing tickets, his mother challenged him to earn them himself.
She began paying Valentino about $2 for completing household chores such as making his bed, washing dishes, taking out the trash, and helping prepare breakfast before school. Some days he earned just a couple of dollars, while on busier days he made as much as $10.
Instead of spending the money, Valentino carefully set it aside, determined to reach his goal.
Four Years of Saving Pays Off
Over the next several years, Valentino continued building his savings. In addition to his chore money, he deposited birthday cash, holiday gifts, and other monetary presents into his growing collection.
By staying committed to his plan, he eventually saved enough money to purchase two tickets to Uruguay’s group-stage matches at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
The tickets will allow him to watch Uruguay face Saudi Arabia and Cape Verde during the tournament, creating memories he has dreamed about since he was six years old. He plans to attend one match with his mother and another with his grandfather, who helped introduce him to the sport.
More Than Just a Fan
Valentino’s dedication extends well beyond watching matches on television.
He plays competitive travel soccer and spends much of his free time practicing his skills as a winger and striker. His family says soccer has become his greatest passion, and he follows Uruguay’s national team closely because of his family’s roots in the country.
His bedroom is decorated with soccer memorabilia, including signed Uruguay jerseys collected after meeting several national team players during visits to South Florida.
Already Planning His Next Goal
Although Valentino has already achieved one major dream, he isn’t finished saving.
His next objective is even bigger: earning enough money to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
His journey shows that even small daily efforts can add up over time. What started as a few dollars for household chores became the opportunity of a lifetime, proving that determination and consistency can make even the biggest dreams possible.
