‘SNL’ Announces Jalen Brunson, Shane Gillis Among Season 52 Hosts

Jalen Brunson Opens Season 52

“Saturday Night Live” is bringing a mix of sports, comedy and entertainment to its 52nd season, with Jalen Brunson and Shane Gillis among the first hosts announced. Jalen Brunson will host the Season 52 premiere on September 26, marking his first time hosting the long running comedy series. The New York Knicks star enters the show after a major year in his basketball career, giving the season premiere a host with plenty of attention surrounding him. Brunson has become one of the NBA’s most recognizable players and a central figure for the Knicks. His appearance gives “SNL” an opportunity to bring professional basketball and New York sports culture into its comedy. KATSEYE will serve as the musical guest for the premiere.

Shane Gillis Returns

Shane Gillis will return as host on October 10. The comedian has already appeared on the show as a host and has developed a large audience through stand-up comedy and television. Gillis has a complicated history with “SNL.” He was originally announced as a cast member in 2019 but was removed before joining the show after past comments became controversial. Years later, he returned to the program as a host. His return for Season 52 shows how much his career has changed since his original casting. Gillis has since established himself as a major name in stand-up comedy and has continued expanding his television career. Rosalía will be the musical guest during Gillis’ episode.

Dakota Johnson Also Returns

Dakota Johnson is scheduled to host the October 3 episode. This will be her third time hosting “SNL,” giving the actress another opportunity to return to the Studio 8H stage. Turnstile will perform as the musical guest. Johnson has previously hosted the show in 2015 and 2024. Her return adds another familiar face to the beginning of the new season.

Halloween Episode Announced

Inde Navarrette will host the October 31 episode, making her “SNL” hosting debut. Gracie Abrams will appear as the musical guest. The Halloween episode gives the show an opportunity to lean into one of its most recognizable annual traditions, with the cast expected to feature plenty of costumes and Halloween themed sketches.

What To Expect From Season 52

The early Season 52 lineup highlights the variety that has long been part of “Saturday Night Live.” The show is starting the season with a professional athlete, established comedians and major Hollywood talent rather than relying on one type of celebrity host. Brunson’s appearance is especially notable because athletes have historically provided some of the show’s most memorable unexpected comedy moments. Gillis, meanwhile, brings a strong stand-up following and an unusual history with the program. With additional hosts and musical guests expected to be announced throughout the season, the first group gives viewers an early look at the direction of Season 52. “Saturday Night Live” returns September 26 on NBC and Peacock.
