The Edmonton Oilers are now one win away from the Western Conference Final after a dominant 3-0 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 4 of their second-round NHL playoff series on Monday night.
Adam Henrique was the star of the night, scoring twice in the first period, while goaltender Stuart Skinner bounced back in impressive fashion, stopping all 23 shots he faced to record the shutout. Evander Kane added a goal and an assist, and Connor McDavid extended his playoff point streak to eight games with an assist.
The Oilers, responding to a heart-wrenching Game 3 loss — where they allowed the game-winning goal with just 0.4 seconds left — wasted no time taking control of Game 4. Just 1:27 into the opening frame, Connor Brown stole the puck behind the Vegas net and found Henrique in the slot, who blasted a one-timer past Adin Hill for his second goal of the playoffs.
Later in the period, Henrique struck again. Zach Hyman dug the puck out from behind the net and set up the veteran forward in front for his second of the night — and first multigoal playoff game since his rookie season in 2012. The goal sparked a brief scrum after Kane collided with Hill on the play.
Kane extended the lead early in the second period when he carried the puck in on a 2-on-1 break and chose to shoot. The puck deflected off a Vegas defender’s skate and into the net, giving the Oilers a commanding 3-0 edge. It was Kane’s fourth goal of the postseason.
After giving up five or more goals in each of his previous playoff starts, Skinner was sharp throughout the night. Reinstated as the starter after Calvin Pickard’s injury in Game 2, Skinner looked confident in net, improving to 1-3 in the postseason.
Hill made 29 saves for the Golden Knights, but he got little support offensively as Vegas struggled to generate consistent scoring chances. The defending Stanley Cup champions now face elimination with the series shifting back to Las Vegas for Game 5 on Wednesday.
Despite the deficit, Golden Knights forward Reilly Smith reminded reporters that his team came back from a 2-1 series hole against Minnesota in the first round by winning three straight. They’ll now need a similar comeback to keep their title defense alive.
Meanwhile, Edmonton has won all eight of its Game 4s since 2023 and continues to show its playoff mettle. With stars producing and depth players stepping up, the Oilers are inching closer to their first conference final appearance since 2022.
