Diamondbacks Power Past Marlins 6-2 Behind Four Homers for Fourth Straight Win

The Arizona Diamondbacks continued their recent hot streak Wednesday night, blasting four home runs en route to a 6-2 win over the Miami Marlins at loanDepot park. With the victory, the D-backs have now won four straight and six of their last seven games.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. provided the big blow with a two-run homer in the eighth inning, capping off a powerful night at the plate for Arizona. Josh Naylor, Pavin Smith, and Tim Tawa each added solo shots, giving the Diamondbacks a season-high four homers in a single game.

Gurriel’s blast, his third of the season, came off Miami reliever Tyler Phillips and extended Arizona’s lead to 6-1. It marked the sixth time this season the Diamondbacks have hit at least two home runs in a game — and they are now a perfect 6-0 in those contests.

Tawa’s long ball in the seventh inning was a milestone, as it marked his first career major league home run. The rookie’s shot helped Arizona pull away late and secured Brandon Pfaadt’s third win of the season.

Pfaadt (3-1) was solid on the mound, allowing one run on five hits over 5 2/3 innings. He struck out six and worked out of a key jam in the fifth inning, when the Marlins had runners on first and second with two outs. With the go-ahead run on base, Pfaadt induced a groundout from Kyle Stowers to preserve Arizona’s 2-1 lead.

Corbin Carroll contributed an RBI single earlier in the fifth to give Arizona the lead. The hit extended his on-base streak to 24 games dating back to Sept. 23, 2024 — currently tied for the longest active streak in the majors.

For the Marlins, Matt Mervis hit a solo homer — his fourth of the season — off Pfaadt in the fourth inning. Miami’s only other run came in the eighth when Otto Lopez doubled home Xavier Edwards. Edwards and Jesús Sánchez each had two hits in the loss.

Miami starter Max Meyer (1-2) pitched well despite the loss, allowing three runs on five hits over six innings while tying his career high with eight strikeouts.

In the bottom of the fifth, with the Marlins trailing 2-1 and threatening with two runners on, Pfaadt ended the rally by getting Stowers to ground out. Arizona would go on to score four more runs over the next three innings to put the game out of reach.

Arizona will go for the three-game sweep Thursday afternoon. Left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez (0-2, 4.86 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Diamondbacks against Miami right-hander Edward Cabrera (0-0, 3.18 ERA).

The Diamondbacks are finding their rhythm early in the season — and if the long ball continues to fly, they’ll be a tough out in the National League.
