Three Arrested After Miami Dade Home Invasion Nets Nearly $360,000 While Teen Hid Inside

Miami Dade Home Invasion Arrests

Three South Florida men have been arrested after investigators say they carried out a daytime home invasion in southwest Miami-Dade, making off with nearly $360,000 in cash while a 14-year-old boy was home alone.

According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the burglary happened Tuesday afternoon at a residence near Southwest 181st Terrace. The teenager was the only person inside the home when three suspects allegedly arrived in a silver SUV and began breaking into the property.

Teen Took Shelter While Intruders Searched The Home

Authorities say the teenager heard suspicious noises after the men entered the house and immediately locked himself inside his bedroom for safety. He contacted his parents while remaining hidden until the suspects left the residence.

The teen was not physically injured during the ordeal, but investigators said he was inside the home as the burglary unfolded.

Investigators Say Suspects Forced Their Way Inside

Detectives identified the suspects as Antonio Mesa, Leonel A. Ramirez, and Pablo Arrechavaleta.

According to investigators, two of the men climbed over the home’s perimeter wall before attempting to enter through a window. When that failed, they allegedly forced open French doors using a screwdriver, damaging the property before making their way inside.

Once inside, authorities say the suspects searched the residence and located approximately $359,400 in cash stored in the master bedroom. The money was taken before the men fled in the waiting SUV.

Police Helicopter Helped Lead To Quick Arrests

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said its aviation unit quickly spotted the suspects leaving the neighborhood and monitored the vehicle from the air while directing deputies on the ground.

Law enforcement officers stopped the SUV a short distance away and arrested all three men without further incident. Investigators say the arrests came only minutes after the burglary was reported.

Suspects Face Multiple Felony Charges

Mesa and Ramirez have each been charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling, grand theft, criminal mischief, and possession of burglary tools. Arrechavaleta, who investigators say drove the getaway vehicle, faces charges including burglary, grand theft, and criminal mischief.

Authorities said two of the suspects allegedly admitted their involvement after being taken into custody, while another chose not to speak with detectives.

A judge ordered all three men held without bond as they await further court proceedings. Court records also indicate that two of the defendants are being held on immigration detainers.

Investigation Remains Active

Investigators have not disclosed why such a large amount of cash was inside the home or whether the residence was specifically targeted. Detectives are continuing to investigate whether the suspects may be connected to other burglaries in South Florida.

The case highlights the frightening reality that home invasions can happen even in the middle of the day, with authorities crediting the rapid response of deputies and the sheriff’s aviation unit for helping recover the suspects before they could escape.
