The Miami Hurricanes offense in 2024 was nothing short of historic. Led by transfer quarterback Cam Ward, the Canes shattered school records, lit up the scoreboard, and powered their way into the national conversation. Ward’s meteoric rise from unheralded recruit to No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick was a college football redemption story for the ages.
But now, as 2025 dawns, a new chapter begins. Once again, Miami will turn to a high-profile transfer to run the show—this time, former Georgia signal-caller Carson Beck. Surrounding him is a retooled but highly talented supporting cast at running back, wide receiver, tight end, and an offensive line that may be among the best in the country.
Quarterback — Carson Beck’s Second Chance
The 2024 season was supposed to be Beck’s Heisman year at Georgia. Instead, the Bulldogs’ passing game sputtered, hampered by the departures of star targets Ladd McConkey and Brock Bowers, a rash of drops, and an offensive line that finally looked human. Much of the blame fell on Beck, perhaps unfairly.
Now, the 6’4” gunslinger gets a fresh start in Coral Gables. He’ll work behind a strong offensive line and under an offensive coordinator who helped engineer the most prolific passing season in program history a year ago.
If early camp buzz about CJ Daniels and the young receiving corps holds true, Beck could be in position to reclaim the spotlight and remind the college football world why he was once considered one of the nation’s elite quarterbacks.
Running Backs — Thunder & Lightning Reloaded
Mark Fletcher Jr. — The Workhorse
At 6’2” and 225 pounds, Fletcher takes over as Miami’s lead back following Damien Martinez’s departure. In 2024, he was the “1B” in Miami’s two-headed rushing attack, logging 607 yards on just 112 carries (5.42 YPC) with nine touchdowns.
Now, Fletcher should see his touches skyrocket. If he maintains his efficiency, a 1,000-yard season and All-ACC honors are well within reach.
Jordan Lyle — The Gamebreaker
A 4-star recruit out of St. Thomas Aquinas, Lyle wasted no time making an impact as a freshman. His 7.41 yards per carry ranked among the best in the country, and his 91-yard TD run vs. USF set a school record. Lyle’s vision, burst, and home-run speed make him the perfect “lightning” complement to Fletcher’s “thunder.”
Chris Wheatley-Humphrey — The Wild Card
Nicknamed “Hellcat,” Wheatley-Humphrey is another track-speed threat who could carve out a change-of-pace role. After being leapfrogged in the rotation last year, he’s looking for a breakthrough in 2025.
Wide Receivers — Wide-Open Competition
Miami’s top four receivers from 2024 are gone, leaving the door wide open for new stars to emerge.
CJ Daniels (Liberty/LSU transfer) will be a focal point once healthy, while Joshisa “Jojo” Trader could be the unit’s most dynamic playmaker. Transfers Keelan Marion (BYU) and Tony Johnson (Cincinnati) bring experience, but the real intrigue lies with the young guns: Ray Ray Joseph, Ny Carr, Chance Robinson, and a trio of impressive freshmen — Joshua Moore, Malachi Toney, Daylyn Upshaw.
Early feedback out of camp? Moore and Toney have been standouts, pushing for immediate playing time. The spring battle here might be the fiercest on the roster.
Tight Ends — Next Man Up at TE U
With Elijah Arroyo off to the NFL (Seattle, Round 2), the Canes turn to two new faces. Elija Lofton saw limited action as a freshman but flashed elite athleticism and physicality. Many expect him to be Miami’s next star tight end.
Alex Bauman a red-zone machine at Tulane last year (7 TDs on 20 catches), Bauman transferred to Miami in search of bigger challenges. His experience makes him a real threat to start.
This could be a true 1A/1B rotation depending on matchups.
Offensive Line — Cristobal’s Fortress
Mario Cristobal’s OL vision has crystallized in Year 4. With Alex Mirabal coaching them up, Miami boasts one of the deepest, most physical fronts in the nation.
Projected Starters:
- LT: Markel Bell — 6’9” JUCO transfer-turned-starter with freakish size and reach.
- LG: Matthew McCoy — Powerful, nasty finisher who seized the job in Week 1 last year.
- C: James Brockermeyer — Veteran transfer (Alabama/TCU) who solidifies the middle.
- RG: Anez Cooper — Once 420+ lbs, now a dominant 340-lb mauler with All-ACC upside.
- RT: Francis Mauigoa — 5-star junior, 2nd Team All-ACC in 2024, projected 1st-round NFL Draft pick.
In 2024, this group paved the way for the No. 1 offense in the country. They return even more seasoned and could be the best unit in the ACC.
Bottom Line
The 2025 Miami Hurricanes offense is a fascinating blend of proven veterans, high-upside transfers, and young breakout candidates. While replacing Cam Ward is no small task, Carson Beck has the tools — and the talent around him — to keep Miami among the nation’s elite offensively.
If the young receivers step up and the running game hits its stride, this unit could be every bit as explosive as last year’s record-setting attack.
