The Miami Heat leaned on balanced scoring and timely defense to snap a five-game losing streak Wednesday night, defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers 120–103 behind 19 points from Norman Powell and 18 from Tyler Herro.
Miami showcased one of its most complete offensive efforts of the season, placing eight players in double figures and controlling most of the game despite a brief third-quarter scare. The victory halted Cleveland’s four-game winning streak and provided a confidence boost for the Heat as the postseason approaches.
After building a 17-point lead in the third quarter, Miami briefly allowed the Cavaliers to claw back into contention. But with the Heat ahead by nine and just five minutes remaining, Bam Adebayo delivered a crucial three-point play before rookie Kel’el Ware followed with a quick layup just 11 seconds later to restore firm control.
Adebayo finished with 17 points, while Ware added 13 points and 11 rebounds in a strong interior performance that helped Miami maintain momentum down the stretch.
The Heat’s offense clicked early and often. Miami knocked down 13 three-pointers and surged to a 21-point lead in the first half, dictating tempo against a Cleveland defense that had already surrendered 131 points the night before in a loss to Orlando.
For Cleveland, Donovan Mitchell scored 28 points but fouled out late in the fourth quarter as the Cavaliers’ comeback hopes faded. James Harden and Sam Merrill each added 18 points.
Cavaliers coach Kenny Atkinson expressed frustration afterward with his team’s defensive effort, noting the urgency required as the playoffs draw closer.
“We’ve got to make the shift in mentality,” Atkinson said, emphasizing the need for sharper execution at both ends of the floor.
Cleveland continues to battle injuries as well. Starting center Jarrett Allen missed his 10th straight game, and forward Dean Wade suffered a right ankle injury during warmups after stepping on a ballboy’s foot. Wade has started 36 games this season.
Miami, meanwhile, benefited from one of its healthiest rotations of the year and used its depth effectively throughout the night.
The teams won’t have to wait long for a rematch. The Heat will remain in Cleveland to face the Cavaliers again Friday in the fourth and final meeting between the clubs this season.
