Banchero Powers Magic Past Heat 133–124 as Orlando Snaps Four-Game Skid

The Orlando Magic shook off a rough stretch Wednesday night with one of their most complete performances of the season, snapping a four-game skid by defeating the Miami Heat 133–124.

Paolo Banchero led the way with a dominant all-around effort, finishing with 31 points and 12 rebounds as Orlando continued its mastery of Miami, improving to 3–0 against the Heat this season. Anthony Black delivered a breakout scoring night with 26 points, while Desmond Bane added 23 on an efficient 10-of-16 shooting. Jalen Suggs chipped in 16 points, including two crucial free throws in the final minute that helped seal the win.

The game got off to an unusual start, delayed seven minutes due to an uneven rim, but once play began, the Magic eventually found their rhythm in emphatic fashion. Orlando trailed by nine at halftime, 68–59, after Miami erased a 14-point first-quarter deficit and took control in the second period behind Simone Fontecchio, who scored 14 of his 23 points in the quarter, including three 3-pointers.

Orlando flipped the game after the break. The Magic exploded in the third quarter, outscoring the Heat 40–20 behind 13 points from Banchero and 10 from Black. Orlando’s defense fueled the surge, forcing seven turnovers and holding a 7–1 advantage in offensive rebounds during the quarter, completely swinging momentum.

That energy carried into the fourth, when the Magic opened the period with a decisive 14–0 run to take a 121–104 lead with 5:47 remaining. Miami refused to go quietly, rallying to cut the deficit to 128–122 on a Norman Powell three-point play with 1:25 left. Powell finished with 22 points, while Bam Adebayo added 21 for the Heat.

But Banchero and Suggs calmly knocked down two free throws apiece in the closing minute to put the game away.

Orlando finished with 36 assists and shot 16-of-38 from beyond the arc, showcasing crisp ball movement and balanced scoring despite being without Franz Wagner, who missed his fourth straight game with a left ankle sprain. Miami was also shorthanded, playing without Tyler Herro (ribs) and Davion Mitchell (shoulder).

The Magic will host Toronto on Friday, looking to build on the momentum of their most complete performance in weeks. The Heat head to Chicago on Thursday for a game rescheduled from Jan. 8 after unplayable court conditions at the United Center forced a postponement. It marks the first of three meetings with the Bulls in a four-day span.
