Bodycam Footage of Former NFL Reporter Dianna Russini’s Pullover Released

Bodycam Footage Contradicts Russini’s Story as Former NFL Insider Faces Continued Scrutiny

Former NFL insider Dianna Russini is once again making headlines after newly released police bodycam footage contradicted a story she previously told publicly about getting out of a traffic ticket by calling an NFL coach.

The footage, released by the Ridgewood, New Jersey Police Department, shows Russini being pulled over on January 19, 2026, for allegedly using a handheld cell phone while driving. During the approximately seven-minute encounter, Russini immediately acknowledged why she believed she had been stopped and explained that she had been working on a major NFL story.

According to the bodycam video, Russini told the officer that she had just broken the news that Sean McDermott had been fired by the Buffalo Bills and was attempting to send information and make calls as part of her job covering the NFL. She explained that she had intended to pull over because she needed to continue making calls and emphasized that the situation was a work-related emergency.

As the conversation continued, Russini identified herself as an NFL reporter and mentioned that she had recently been speaking with former New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll, claiming he wanted the Buffalo coaching job. She then asked the officer which NFL team he supported. When he replied that he was a Minnesota Vikings fan, Russini showed him text messages she said were from Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell. At one point, she also joked about the Vikings’ quarterback situation (She actually said JJ McCarthy sucked).

The officer ultimately exercised his discretion and issued Russini only a verbal warning instead of a citation. Before ending the stop, he acknowledged that he understood her profession required frequent phone use but advised her to wait until she was safely parked before conducting business in the future. He even jokingly asked her to keep him updated on Vikings news.

The bodycam footage quickly became a major story because it directly contradicted an account Russini had shared months earlier during a February appearance on the “Stugotz and Company” podcast. During that interview, she claimed she had FaceTimed the head coach of the officer’s favorite NFL team and that the coach personally told the officer to “let her go.”

The newly released video shows that no such FaceTime call occurred during the traffic stop. While Russini did discuss NFL coaches and display text messages from Kevin O’Connell, no video call was ever placed, and police officials confirmed the officer’s decision to issue only a warning was consistent with department policy and based on his professional discretion.

Who Is Dianna Russini?

Dianna Russini built one of the most recognizable careers in NFL journalism over the past decade. A graduate of George Mason University and a former collegiate soccer player, Russini worked in local television news before becoming a sports anchor in Washington, D.C.

Her national profile rose significantly after joining ESPN in 2015, where she became a SportsCenter anchor, NFL analyst, and regular contributor to NFL Live and Sunday NFL Countdown. In 2023, she left ESPN to become the lead NFL insider for The Athletic, where she was responsible for breaking league news, conducting exclusive interviews, and hosting football podcasts. Throughout her career, she earned a reputation for cultivating relationships with coaches, executives, agents, and players that frequently allowed her to break major NFL stories before competing outlets.

As of now, Dianna Russini is not working for any major media outlet. She resigned from The Athletic in April 2026 while the publication was conducting an internal investigation into her relationship with New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel.

Since her resignation, she has not announced a new employer or accepted a publicly confirmed position with another sports media company. She has also kept a relatively low public profile, deactivating her X account and making her Instagram account private.

There has been at least one public offer extended to her. Sports radio personality Jon ‘Stugotz’ Weiner has repeatedly said that Russini has a standing offer to join his show whenever she wants to return to sports media, but there has been no announcement that she has accepted it.

The Mike Vrabel Controversy

Russini’s professional career took a dramatic turn in April 2026 after photographs published by Page Six showed her spending time with then-New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel at a luxury resort in Sedona, Arizona. Both Russini and Vrabel were married to other people at the time.

Initially, both denied that the photographs represented a romantic relationship, describing the images as lacking context. However, additional photographs later surfaced that reportedly showed the pair together over multiple years, including images from 2020 that appeared to show them kissing at a New York City bar before Russini’s marriage. Those reports fueled allegations that the relationship extended back several years.

The controversy quickly raised questions about journalistic ethics because Russini had spent years covering the NFL while maintaining a close personal relationship with one of the league’s most prominent coaches. The Athletic opened an internal review into the matter, and Russini ultimately resigned from the publication during the investigation. Mike Vrabel also faced significant public scrutiny regarding the allegations, although both he and Russini denied wrongdoing in their initial public responses.

A Continuing Blow to Credibility

The release of the bodycam footage has renewed criticism of Russini’s credibility because it appears to contradict one of her own publicly shared stories about leveraging NFL connections during a police stop. While the officer clearly recognized that her work involved covering professional football and ultimately chose to issue a warning rather than a citation, the video does not support her previous claim that she avoided a ticket by FaceTiming an NFL coach.

Coming only months after the controversy surrounding her relationship with Mike Vrabel, the footage has added another chapter to what has become one of the most closely watched controversies involving a high-profile NFL media personality. Whether Russini eventually returns to sports journalism remains uncertain, but the combination of the ethics investigation, her resignation from The Athletic, and now the release of the traffic stop footage has significantly altered the public perception of one of the NFL media’s most recognizable insiders.

***Editor’s Note***

It’s funny how people think the playing field isn’t even or fair for women. Well, a man could never get away with any of this. He never would have been able to “shmooze” his way out of the ticket in this footage. He never could use his looks and sexuality to get the “inside information” that Russini gets and got. She used this so well that she wound up having a serious affair with one of the most popular coaches in the NFL. Imagine if those roles were reversed, gender-wise?

And if the allegations and rumors have any truth, she has slept with many coaches, assistants, and who knows who else. Being promiscuous is not illegal. But it is unbecoming, and it is unethical. Russini is clearly an attractive woman. She used this to her advantage. Disagreeing with this either makes you naive or, worse, disingenuous. If she wasn’t guilty of all of this, she would still be working. But she isn’t. She is now just a fan who can reminisce over the coaches she talked to… and maybe even had sex with.
