Jake Paul Suffers Broken Jaw and Loses Multiple Teeth After Fight With Anthony Joshua

Jake Paul Suffers Broken Jaw and Dental Injuries After Sixth-Round Knockout Loss to Anthony Joshua

Jake Paul left the ring Friday night with far more than a loss on his record after being stopped in the sixth round by former unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in a Netflix main event that turned physically punishing as it wore on. According to Paul, the fight resulted in a fractured jaw in two places, the loss of multiple teeth, and emergency surgery shortly after the bout. The injuries came after Joshua knocked Paul down four times before the referee halted the contest in Round 6.

Paul Confirms Broken Jaw and Surgery

In his post-fight comments and subsequent social media posts, Jake Paul said his jaw was broken during the fight. A close-up video shared by Paul showed visible blood and teeth noticeably out of alignment inside his mouth. Paul later posted a photo from a hospital bed, confirming he underwent surgery and had teeth removed. He also revealed that two titanium plates were fitted to stabilize his jaw, and that he will be restricted to a liquid-only diet for at least seven days.

“Just got out of surgery. Everything went smooth,” Paul wrote. “Lots of pain and stiffness. Gotta eat liquids for 7 days.”

An X-ray image shared online showed fractures in two separate locations along Paul’s jaw, consistent with the damage described.

How the Damage Occurred in the Ring

Many analysts expected the fight to end quickly, with Joshua’s size, power, and experience presenting a steep challenge. Paul exceeded expectations by surviving into the sixth round, but absorbed sustained punishment along the way. Joshua began breaking Paul down in the middle rounds, knocking him down repeatedly as Paul slowed and relied more heavily on clinching and evasive movement. The cumulative damage ultimately led to the stoppage. Despite the injuries, Paul avoided being knocked unconscious an outcome some viewed as a small moral victory given the matchup.

Context Within Joshua’s Career

For Joshua, the stoppage win did little to elevate his standing among boxing purists. The former champion had said before the fight that anything short of a first-round knockout would be a disappointment, and he struggled early to land clean shots. Joshua (29-4, 26 KOs) used the win to again call for a long-anticipated bout against Tyson Fury, framing the Paul fight as a tune-up rather than a defining moment.

Paul’s Record and What Comes Next

Paul (12-2, 7 KOs) suffered the second professional loss of his boxing career. While his durability drew some praise—particularly compared to Francis Ngannou, who was stopped earlier by Joshua—his performance raised questions about his stated ambitions of winning a cruiserweight world title. Medical recovery will now take priority. With facial fractures, implanted hardware, and dental reconstruction, Paul is expected to face weeks of limited training before resuming full contact activity. For now, the takeaway is clear: stepping into the ring with a former heavyweight champion came with a steep physical cost—one Paul will be paying long after the final bell.
