The Boston Celtics delivered one of their most explosive offensive performances of the season Wednesday night, riding a historic first quarter and a dominant showing from Jaylen Brown to a 147–129 victory over the Miami Heat at TD Garden.
Brown erupted for 43 points to lead all scorers, while Jayson Tatum recorded his first triple-double of the season with 25 points, 18 rebounds, and 11 assists as Boston overwhelmed Miami early and never fully surrendered control.
The Celtics wasted little time asserting themselves, opening the game with remarkable shooting efficiency. Boston made 11 of its first 13 shots and closed the first quarter on a stunning 24–3 run that flipped a one-point deficit into a commanding 20-point advantage in just over four minutes.
Boston’s 53-point first quarter set a franchise record and tied for the second-highest opening-quarter total in NBA history. By halftime, the Celtics had built an 80–57 lead and pushed the margin to 27 early in the third quarter after scoring the first four points of the second half.
Sam Hauser added 23 points for Boston, continuing the team’s balanced offensive attack that has made them nearly unbeatable when scoring at a high level. The Celtics improved to a perfect 31–0 this season when reaching at least 117 points and have now won 10 of their last 11 games following a loss.
Despite the early deficit, Miami showed resilience behind a historic night from beyond the arc. The Heat tied a franchise record by knocking down 24 three-pointers — matching the mark they’ve reached three previous times.
Bam Adebayo led Miami with 29 points and 10 rebounds, while Davion Mitchell contributed 21 points. Tyler Herro and Pelle Larsson each added 18, and Jaime Jaquez Jr. finished with 17.
Miami trimmed Boston’s lead to nine early in the fourth quarter, but the Celtics responded with timely scoring to maintain control down the stretch and secure the win.
With the victory, Boston improved to 51–25 and remained firmly in second place in the Eastern Conference standings, trailing the top-seeded Detroit Pistons by four games.
Meanwhile, Miami fell to 40–37 but stayed in the No. 10 spot in the Eastern Conference play-in race. The Heat sit just a half-game behind both the Orlando Magic and the Charlotte Hornets, each currently holding 40–36 records, keeping the postseason picture tightly contested entering the final stretch of the regular season.
Boston continues its road trip Friday with a matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks, while Miami returns home Saturday to host the Washington Wizards as the battle for play-in positioning intensifies.
