Gauff Returns to Quarterfinals Continues Impressive Run

Coco Gauff is back in the US Open quarterfinals for the first time since winning the tournament three years ago. The No. 4 seed delivered another impressive performance Monday night, defeating No. 14 seed Iva Jovic 6-1, 6-4 to advance to the final eight at Flushing Meadows.

The victory was Gauff’s 10th consecutive win and extended her current streak to nine straight-set victories, the longest such streak of her career. Gauff will face fifth-seeded Mirra Andreeva in the quarterfinals on Wednesday as she continues her pursuit of a second US Open championship.

Gauff Building Momentum in New York

Gauff captured the US Open title in 2023, earning the first Grand Slam championship of her career. Her path back to the quarterfinals has not always been easy, however. She was eliminated by Emma Navarro in the fourth round in 2024 and fell to Naomi Osaka at the same stage in 2025.

This year, Gauff has looked much more dominant. She has not dropped a set since her opening match at the Cincinnati Open, where she won six consecutive matches on her way to the title. She has carried that momentum into New York, winning all four of her matches without losing a set.

The run also marks another significant milestone for the 22-year-old American. Gauff has reached the quarterfinals at three Grand Slam tournaments this year for the first time in her career, making her the youngest American woman to accomplish the feat in a single season since Serena Williams did so at age 21 in 2003.

Jovic’s Impressive Tournament Comes to an End

Jovic entered the fourth round after an impressive victory over No. 17 seed Alexandra Eala in the previous round. The 14th seed was attempting to match her best-ever Grand Slam result after reaching the Australian Open quarterfinals earlier this year.

Instead, Jovic’s run came to an end against a Gauff who has been playing with increasing confidence and consistency throughout the summer. Gauff quickly established control of the match, taking the opening set 6-1 before maintaining her advantage in the second set to close out the victory 6-4.

Gauff Faces Andreeva in the Quarterfinals

Gauff’s next challenge will be Andreeva, the fifth seed and reigning French Open champion. Gauff owns a 5-0 record against Andreeva in their head-to-head series. Their rivalry includes a hard-court meeting at the 2023 US Open, the same tournament where Gauff went on to win her first major championship.

With her confidence high and her serve and ground game clicking, Gauff enters Wednesday’s quarterfinal with another opportunity to move one step closer to a second US Open title. The American star’s combination of recent form, Grand Slam experience and a perfect record against Andreeva makes the quarterfinal matchup one of the most anticipated matches of the women’s tournament.
