Cyclist Climbs Eiffel Tower
“It’s not about strength, it’s about precision, control, and never giving up,” said French cyclist and YouTube sensation Aurelien Fontenoy after doing what most thought was impossible — riding his bicycle up the Eiffel Tower.
A Historic Feat on Two Wheels
Fontenoy, a former world trials biking champion known for his jaw-dropping stunts, made headlines this week after conquering all 686 steps of the Eiffel Tower, pedaling and hopping his bike step by step to the highest point accessible by stairs. The 35-year-old completed the climb in 12 minutes and 30 seconds, a physical and mental feat that required both balance and endurance. The challenge began at the base of the Paris landmark and ended at the second floor, 377 feet above the ground, marking one of the most ambitious cycling ascents ever recorded.
“Every Step Is a Battle”
The video, posted on Fontenoy’s social media channels, shows him maintaining razor-sharp control while hopping vertically from one narrow metal step to the next, often balancing on the edge with less than an inch of tire space. “It’s not about speed. Every step is a battle of balance,” Fontenoy said in an interview following the climb. “You can’t lose focus for even a second. One mistake, and it’s over.” The challenge was part of a project highlighting human endurance and precision. Fontenoy, who has over a million YouTube subscribers, is no stranger to such stunts. He has previously biked across rooftops, construction cranes, and mountain cliffs without safety lines.
The Eiffel Tower Challenge
Permission for the climb was reportedly granted by French authorities after months of planning and safety assessments. Fontenoy used a lightweight trial bike specially designed for balance and vertical jumping. No ropes, motors, or artificial aids were used. By the time he reached the final step, Fontenoy was visibly exhausted but smiling. “I wanted to do something symbolic,” he said. “The Eiffel Tower represents France and ambition. Climbing it with my bike is my way of showing that with passion, nothing is impossible.”
Viral Sensation and Global Applause
The feat quickly went viral across TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, with millions of views pouring in within hours. Fans and fellow athletes praised Fontenoy’s precision and courage, calling the stunt both “insane” and “inspirational.” Even cycling legend Chris Froome shared the clip, writing: “Utter madness, but what control!” For Fontenoy, the climb is not just a viral stunt — it’s a message of perseverance. “It’s a metaphor for life,” he said. “You climb, you fall, and you keep going, step by step.”
