Dallas Police Release Dash and Body Camera Footage of Recent Officer-Involved Shooting
Dallas, TX — On Monday, Dallas Chief of Police Eddie Garcia released dash camera and body camera videos detailing last week’s shooting involving a police officer, providing a clearer picture of the chaotic events that unfolded.
The incident occurred Thursday in the 9600 block of Golf Lakes Trail after officers identified a stolen truck using a Flock license plate reader. Covert officers confirmed the truck’s location, leading to a coordinated effort where marked units surrounded the vehicle. The situation escalated quickly when the driver of the stolen truck attempted to flee by ramming a police car and driving onto its hood.
The released footage shows four individuals exiting the disabled truck and scattering. During the ensuing foot chase, police confronted an armed 17-year-old, later identified as Eric Lampkin-Scarborough. Lampkin-Scarborough, wielding a handgun modified with an extended magazine and a switch, was shot twice by an officer. Chief Garcia stated that officers administered first aid, and Lampkin-Scarborough was reported in stable condition as of Monday.
Two other suspects were apprehended at the scene, while a fourth individual, believed to be armed, escaped and remains at large. The identity of the fugitive has not been confirmed by the authorities.
Among those arrested was 19-year-old Deantae Moore, who was already wanted on outstanding capital murder warrants connected to the March slayings of two 18-year-old men at a Dallas convenience store. The third suspect, 21-year-old Damon Price, was hospitalized following his arrest after he complained of chest pain.
In addition to Moore’s capital murder charges, the suspects face a litany of other charges, including possession of a prohibited weapon, evading detention on foot, aggravated assault of a public servant, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance.
Chief Garcia revealed that officers recovered four weapons from the scene—two that fell from the vehicle, one near where Lampkin-Scarborough was apprehended, and another during a search of the stolen truck. Two of these weapons were confirmed to be stolen.
Garcia emphasized that while the suspects’ intentions that afternoon remain unclear, the possession of stolen weapons and masks suggests they might have been planning more serious crimes. The police’s swift action potentially thwarted a more dangerous situation.
The ongoing investigation is being handled by the Dallas Police Special Investigations Unit. The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office and the Office of Community Police Oversight were both notified and responded to the scene. Each entity will conduct its own investigation into the incident.
As of now, it is not clear whether any of the suspects have secured legal representation.
