San Francisco 49ers Owner Jed York Arrested
San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York was arrested in Ohio after authorities accused him of attempting to arrange a paid sexual encounter during an undercover prostitution investigation.
York, 46, was arrested Aug. 23 in East Palestine, Ohio, according to authorities and court records. The operation was conducted by local police and the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force as part of an investigation targeting prostitution and human trafficking activity.
Undercover Investigation
According to court records, York allegedly responded to an online advertisement used by investigators and communicated with an undercover officer about arranging a sexual encounter. Authorities alleged that York agreed to pay $140 and traveled to a mobile home community in East Palestine.
Police said York arrived at the location with the cellphone that had been used to communicate with the undercover operation. The phone subsequently became part of the criminal case.
York was initially accused of prostitution and possessing criminal tools. The prostitution allegation was later reduced to a disorderly conduct charge as part of the resolution of the case.
York Pleads No Contest
York ultimately pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools.
He was sentenced to one day in jail, with credit for time already served, and ordered to pay $1,150 in fines. He had previously posted a $5,000 bond following his arrest.
Because the original prostitution allegation was reduced, York was not convicted of prostitution.
49ers Respond
The 49ers acknowledged the arrest but declined to provide extensive comment because the matter involved a legal proceeding.
“As this is a legal matter, which has been resolved, we will not be providing any further comment at this time,” the team said, according to reports.
York has been a prominent figure within the 49ers organization for years. He became the team’s president and CEO in 2008 and later became the franchise’s principal owner.
NFL Reviewing Arrest
The case could still have consequences for York despite the resolution of the Ohio criminal charges.
The NFL has confirmed that it is aware of the incident and is reviewing the matter under the league’s personal conduct policy. The policy applies to individuals affiliated with NFL clubs, including owners.
Any potential league discipline would be separate from the Ohio court case.
The timing also places the controversy around York just weeks before the start of the NFL regular season, putting additional attention on the 49ers organization as the team prepares for the 2026 season.
York’s case is a reminder that an arrest and a conviction are not interchangeable. While authorities initially accused him of attempting to engage in prostitution, the case ultimately ended with no contest pleas to the reduced misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools.
