Houston Plastic Surgeon Facing Four Malpractice Suits
Houston plastic surgeon Dr. Dare Ajibade is facing four medical malpractice lawsuits filed within roughly a year, with allegations involving a patient death, severe brain damage and permanent injuries suffered by other patients.
The lawsuits, reported in a recent investigation, stem from separate procedures performed in Texas and Virginia. The claims remain allegations, and malpractice lawsuits do not establish liability. Ajibade has denied allegations of negligent surgery in at least one case, while representatives connected to him have declined to comment on pending litigation.
Lawsuit Filed After Patient’s Death
One of the lawsuits was filed following the death of Susan Easley, who underwent liposuction with Ajibade at a facility in Virginia in 2024.
According to the lawsuit, Easley had been examined before the procedure and was documented as being in excellent health. Her family later alleged that her death was connected to complications following the surgery. Ajibade denied performing negligent surgery in his response to the civil case.
Patient Allegedly Left With Severe Brain Damage
Another lawsuit involves 27-year-old Junis Maldonado, whose family filed a medical malpractice lawsuit in San Antonio on June 23, 2026.
The lawsuit alleges Maldonado suffered multiple seizures and cardiopulmonary arrest during a liposuction procedure in May and had to be resuscitated. Her family alleges she suffered a brain injury after being deprived of oxygen.
According to the lawsuit, Maldonado now has a tracheostomy and requires a feeding tube. The filing states that her treating physicians expect her to suffer severe and permanent cognitive, neurological and functional disabilities for the rest of her life. A spokesperson representing Ajibade and the clinic involved said they could not comment on pending litigation and that patient safety was their highest priority.
Other Patients Allege Serious Injuries
A third lawsuit was filed by Rosa Caldera, who traveled from Fort Worth to Houston for a liposuction procedure in 2024. Caldera alleges her surgery lasted approximately 10 hours and that she suffered serious injuries, including a third-degree burn that later required skin graft surgery.
She was transported by ambulance from the clinic to a hospital and was initially admitted to the intensive care unit, according to the report and lawsuit. Caldera has said the physical recovery took about a year and that she continues to deal with the emotional impact of the experience.
A fourth malpractice lawsuit was also filed against Ajibade within the one-year period. A later report identified the plaintiff as Ebony Williams, whose lawsuit alleges she suffered hospitalization, severe wounds, scarring, disfigurement and injuries that could require additional surgeries.
Texas Medical Board Action
The Texas Medical Board has also taken disciplinary action involving Ajibade’s care of patients. According to public board findings reported after the initial investigation, the board cited cases involving procedures that did not conform to the standard of care and described medical records as deficient in some cases.
Ajibade was ordered to complete additional education and medical recordkeeping requirements and pay fines. In the later board action, the order stated that he neither admitted nor denied the allegations and reported making changes to his practice.
The mounting litigation has raised questions about patient safety, physician oversight and how much information consumers can access before undergoing elective medical procedures. Ajibade has faced claims in multiple jurisdictions, while the cases themselves continue through the legal process.
