Volusia Sheriff Says ‘Predator’ Hunted Teen Girls at Daytona Beach Hangouts
A Palm Coast man already on probation for a previous child sex offense is back behind bars after Volusia County investigators say he targeted two underage girls, supplied them with alcohol, and sexually assaulted them in Ormond Beach.
Nicholas Alo, 24, was arrested this week following an investigation by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office Child Exploitation Unit. Sheriff Mike Chitwood did not mince words when discussing the case, calling Alo a predator and warning parents that detectives fear there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward.
According to investigators, the case began after one of the victims, a 13-year-old girl, returned home and told her father what had happened. The father immediately contacted law enforcement, triggering an investigation that would eventually lead detectives to Alo.
Authorities say Alo picked up two girls, ages 13 and 15, purchased alcohol for them, and took them to Ormond Beach’s Central Park. Investigators allege the girls consumed the alcohol before Alo engaged in sexual activity with both minors.
The allegations become even more troubling because Alo was already on probation for a prior case involving a 12 year old child.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Alo was convicted in a previous child sex case and had served prison time before being released under supervision. Detectives say the latest allegations occurred while he was still on probation.
During a press briefing, Chitwood said investigators have uncovered evidence suggesting Alo regularly spent time around locations frequented by teenagers, including Daytona Beach skate parks, boardwalk areas, public parks, and other popular youth gathering spots. Detectives now believe Alo may have used those locations to identify and communicate with potential victims.
“This guy is an absolute predator,” Chitwood said while discussing the investigation.
Authorities say Alo now faces multiple felony charges, including lewd and lascivious battery, child abuse, violation of probation, and escape after allegedly attempting to flee from deputies during his arrest. A Volusia County judge ordered Alo held without bond.
Investigators are continuing to examine electronic evidence recovered during the investigation and are urging anyone who may have had contact with Alo to contact the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
As the investigation continues, detectives are working to determine whether other victims may have encountered Alo at Daytona area beaches, skate parks, boardwalks, or other locations where teenagers commonly gather. For now, Alo remains behind bars as prosecutors move forward with the case.
