Florida Mother Arrested
A 32 year old South Florida woman, identified as Emily Sabogal, was arrested in Sunrise after police said she left her two young children unattended inside an Uber vehicle for several hours. According to the Sunrise Police Department, officers were called after the rideshare driver became concerned when Sabogal did not return to the vehicle as promised.
What Police Say Happened
Investigators state that Sabogal entered an Uber with her children and told the driver she would be back in three minutes. Instead, authorities say she remained away for hours. The driver eventually contacted law enforcement. Officers responding to the scene found the children still inside the vehicle. According to the arrest report, the children were described as thirsty and hungry but otherwise in good spirits.
Police said Sabogal was later located approximately two miles away from where the Uber had been waiting. The arrest affidavit indicates officers believed she had been drinking prior to leaving the children in the vehicle.
Criminal Charges Filed
Sabogal faces charges of child neglect without great bodily harm and desertion of a child. Under Florida law, child neglect involves failing to provide necessary supervision or care. Court records show a judge set bond at $1,500 for each charge. She later posted bond and was released from jail.
Custody and Ongoing Proceedings
Authorities have not disclosed whether the children were temporarily placed with another guardian, but reporting indicates their father intends to seek full custody. The case remains active as it moves through the Broward County court system. The incident underscores the legal and safety consequences of leaving children unattended, even for what may initially be described as a brief period.
