In a thrilling display of skill and determination, Florida State University’s baseball team clinched the Tallahassee Regional title, continuing their quest for Omaha. The Seminoles showcased their prowess with a commanding 12-4 victory over the University of Central Florida (UCF) on Sunday, marking their first regional title in the NCAA baseball tournament since 2019.

The Seminoles’ triumph was catalyzed by a decisive fifth inning that shifted the game’s momentum in their favor. Trailing slightly, FSU found the spark they needed when Cam Smith stepped up to the plate. With one runner on base, Smith delivered a powerful two-run homer, tying the game and igniting the Seminole offense.

Following Smith’s game-tying blast, Jamie Ferrer kept the momentum alive with a crucial RBI double, driving in two more runs and giving FSU their first lead of the night. This offensive burst was only the beginning, as Max Williams soon followed with a three-run homer, extending FSU’s lead to a comfortable 9-2.

Despite UCF’s efforts to mount a comeback, including manager Rich Wallace’s strategic use of five different pitchers, the Knights struggled to contain FSU’s relentless offense. UCF managed to score two additional runs—aided by an error and a solo home run by Andrew Sundean in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively—but it wasn’t enough to turn the tide.

FSU continued to press their advantage, adding three more runs in the seventh inning. By the end of the game, four Seminoles had recorded at least one RBI, showcasing the depth and versatility of their lineup.

On the mound, FSU’s Conner Whittaker made his ninth start of the season, allowing a home run and three hits while issuing two walks. Relief pitchers Connor Hults and John Abraham also saw action, with Hults earning the win (2-1) and John Abraham delivering solid innings in support. Joe Charles closed out the game effectively, leaving two UCF runners stranded on base and securing the victory for the Seminoles.

With this win, Florida State advances to the Super Regionals, bringing them one step closer to their ultimate goal: reaching the College World Series in Omaha. The Seminoles’ potent combination of timely hitting, strategic pitching, and resilient defense has them well-positioned for the challenges ahead.

As they prepare for their next opponent, FSU’s performance in the Tallahassee Regional serves as a testament to their talent and tenacity. Fans and supporters eagerly anticipate the continuation of this exciting postseason journey, hopeful that the Seminoles will continue their march towards college baseball’s biggest stage.
