Lawrence Dazzles as Jaguars Roll Past Jets 48-20, Reach 10 Wins

This was Trevor Lawrence, a franchise quarterback in full command, carving up a defense with his arm and torching it with his legs.

Lawrence accounted for six touchdowns, including a career-high five passing scores, as the Jacksonville Jaguars steamrolled the New York Jets 48-20 on Sunday in a Week 15 rout that pushed Jacksonville to 10 victories for just the second time in the last 18 seasons. The win extended the Jaguars’ streak to five straight and delivered one of the most complete performances of Lawrence’s five-year NFL career.

Not even longtime teammate Travis Etienne could recall seeing Lawrence play at such a dominant level — in college or the pros.

Lawrence completed 20 of 32 passes for 330 yards without a turnover for the third consecutive game. His passer rating of 136.7 was the best of his career. He also ran for 51 yards and a touchdown, highlighted by a tone-setting 15-yard scramble in the first quarter. Rolling left, Lawrence juked edge rusher Will McDonald in the backfield before sprinting down the sideline, igniting the home crowd and signaling what kind of day it would be.

The Jaguars (10-4) wasted no time asserting control. They scored touchdowns on their first three possessions — something they hadn’t done since 1998 — and topped 40 points through three quarters for the first time since 2005. Jacksonville led 14-0 before the Jets even recorded a first down, helped by New York losing six yards on a failed fourth-and-1 that handed the Jaguars a short field early.

It was a drama-free afternoon for Jacksonville, which overwhelmed the Jets in every phase. Etienne was one of Lawrence’s favorite targets, hauling in three touchdown passes. His final score came on a 45-yard screen pass that he finished by flipping into the end zone, putting an exclamation point on the blowout.

The Jets (3-11) endured one of their worst defensive performances in years, allowing their most points since a 54-13 loss to New England in 2021. The lopsided loss prompted renewed questions about head coach Aaron Glenn taking over defensive play-calling duties from coordinator Steve Wilks.

The day also marked a difficult NFL debut for Brady Cook, whom the Jets said became the first undrafted rookie quarterback to start for the franchise since Bill Demory in 1973. Cook had a brief highlight early, connecting with Adonai Mitchell on a 9-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter. Mitchell retrieved the ball and handed it to Cook on the sideline as a souvenir.

There weren’t many bright spots after that. Cook finished 22 of 33 for 176 yards with three interceptions. Breece Hall found little room against the NFL’s top rushing defense, managing just 23 yards on 12 carries. Mitchell led New York with seven catches for 69 yards.

Tempers flared late in the game when Jets defensive lineman Khalen Saunders was ejected for making contact with an official during an extra point. Saunders, who spent the first two months of the season with Jacksonville before being released in mid-November, got into a verbal exchange with Jaguars offensive linemen that escalated into shoving — including contact with an official.

By then, the outcome was long decided. The Jets travel to New Orleans next Sunday, while the Jaguars head to Denver looking to keep their momentum rolling as they chase postseason positioning.
