Mitchell’s Extra-Inning Double Lifts Brewers Past Marlins 7–5 in 10 Innings

The Milwaukee Brewers used timely hitting in extra innings to outlast the Miami Marlins 7–5 on Friday night, with Garrett Mitchell delivering the decisive blow in the 10th inning to seal the victory.

Mitchell finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs, including a clutch two-run double in the top of the 10th that broke open a 4–4 tie. His extra-inning heroics capped a productive night at the plate and helped Milwaukee secure the opener of the three-game series.

Miami reliever Calvin Faucher entered the 10th with the game even but quickly ran into trouble. He walked Gary Sánchez with automatic runner Brice Turang on second, and Jake Bauers followed with a single to load the bases. Luis Rengifo then reached on a throwing error by second baseman Xavier Edwards, allowing Turang to score the go-ahead run. Mitchell stepped in moments later and ripped a double to extend Milwaukee’s lead to 7–4.

The Marlins answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning when Jakob Marsee scored on Trevor Megill’s wild pitch, but Megill regrouped to close out the frame and earn his fourth save of the season.

Earlier in the game, Milwaukee built momentum with a three-run fourth inning. Mitchell drove in a run with an RBI single, Bauers crossed the plate on a forceout at first, and Rengifo later scored on a throwing error by catcher Agustín Ramírez to give the Brewers a 3–1 advantage.

Miami responded with timely offense of its own. Otto Lopez tripled to center field in the fourth and scored on a sacrifice fly by Owen Caissie. Lopez struck again in the sixth inning with a two-run homer that pulled the Marlins within one run at 4–3. Ramírez later tied the game in the eighth inning with an RBI double, forcing extra innings and setting the stage for Mitchell’s late-game heroics.

Making his Brewers debut, right-hander Coleman Crow delivered a steady performance on the mound. He threw 77 pitches across 5 1/3 innings, striking out four while allowing two earned runs and one walk. Crow entered the game after going 2–0 with a 4.07 ERA in two starts for Triple-A Nashville and was pitching in his first major league action since returning from Tommy John surgery that sidelined him for part of 2023 and all of 2024.

Reliever Abner Uribe (1–0) handled the ninth inning to earn the win, setting up Megill’s save opportunity in the 10th.

Miami also dealt with an injury setback during the game when third baseman Graham Pauley exited in the seventh inning with right oblique discomfort after twisting away from an inside pitch.

The series continues Saturday with Milwaukee sending Brandon Woodruff (1–0, 4.36 ERA) to the mound against Miami ace Sandy Alcantara (2–1, 2.67 ERA) in what shapes up as a strong pitching matchup in Game 2 of the set.
