The Green Bay Packers delivered a commanding 30-13 victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night, snapping Seattle’s four-game winning streak and solidifying their position in the NFC playoff hunt. Behind quarterback Jordan Love’s efficient performance and a standout game from wide receiver Romeo Doubs, the Packers improved to 10-4 and handed the Seahawks (8-6) a costly loss, one further compounded by quarterback Geno Smith’s knee injury in the third quarter.
Jordan Love, continuing his stellar form, completed 20 of 27 passes for 229 yards and two touchdowns, both to Romeo Doubs. Doubs, who returned from a two-game absence due to a concussion, made his impact felt early and often. His first touchdown, a 13-yard catch in the first quarter, saw him drag multiple defenders into the end zone, showcasing his physicality.
The defining moment of the game came in the fourth quarter when Love found Doubs for a 22-yard score. Doubs, tightly covered by Seattle’s standout rookie Devon Witherspoon, made a remarkable catch while falling to the turf, securing the ball with his elbow in bounds. The highlight-reel play silenced the Lumen Field crowd, with opposing fans chanting “Go Pack Go!”
Packers running back Josh Jacobs powered the ground attack, rushing for 94 yards and a touchdown. His 1-yard plunge capped Green Bay’s opening drive, which was aided by an unnecessary roughness penalty on Seattle’s Riq Woolen.
Defensively, the Packers were relentless. Carrington Valentine grabbed his first career interception, picking off Geno Smith in the end zone to kill a promising Seattle drive in the second quarter. Green Bay’s pass rush also delivered a game-changing moment when linebacker Edgerrin Cooper’s low hit on Smith forced the Seahawks quarterback to leave the game in frustration, slamming his helmet as he limped to the sideline.
Backup quarterback Sam Howell replaced Smith but struggled mightily, completing just 5 of 14 passes for 24 yards and an interception.
Seattle fell behind 20-3 at halftime after Green Bay scored on all four of its first-half possessions. Despite Jason Myers’ 48-yard field goal in the second quarter and Zach Charbonnet’s 24-yard touchdown run early in the fourth, the Seahawks couldn’t sustain drives against Green Bay’s opportunistic defense.
Smith’s end zone interception in the second quarter was his 13th of the season and fourth in the end zone, a glaring issue that has plagued Seattle’s offense.
With the win, the Packers have now won eight of their last 10 games, though their two losses in that stretch came to NFC North-leading Detroit. While a division title seems out of reach, Green Bay is inching closer to securing a playoff spot.
The Seahawks’ loss dropped them into a first-place tie with the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC West. The injury to Geno Smith could further impact their playoff hopes, with scans on his knee scheduled for Monday. Head coach Mike Macdonald provided some optimism, saying the knee appeared structurally sound, but Smith’s status remains uncertain.
The Packers will look to continue their hot streak when they host the New Orleans Saints on Monday, Dec. 23. The Seahawks, meanwhile, face another crucial test as they host the Minnesota Vikings next Sunday. Minnesota clinched a playoff spot with Seattle’s loss, adding more pressure to a Seahawks team fighting to keep its postseason hopes alive.
This victory marks another step forward for a Packers team that is peaking at the right time, while the Seahawks face mounting challenges as the season winds down.
