Ramírez Powers Marlins Past Rockies 8-4 as Miami Stays Hot

Ramírez homered and drove in three runs, and the surging Miami Marlins continued their late-season push with an 8-4 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday night at Coors Field.

Javier Sanoja collected three hits, and reliever Lake Bachar (7-2) delivered two scoreless innings after starter Ryan Weathers labored through four frames. Miami has now won six of its last seven, while Colorado dropped its 21st game in its past 25, falling to 41-111.

The Rockies are staring down history. They need just one win in their final 10 games to avoid matching the 2024 Chicago White Sox (42-120) for the most losses in a modern-era season, and two wins to surpass the 1962 New York Mets’ infamous 40-win mark — the fewest by any NL club.

Mickey Moniak provided one of Colorado’s few bright spots with his 23rd home run of the season, a solo shot.

The Rockies struck first, plating two runs in the second on a sacrifice fly and Jordan Beck’s RBI single. Miami responded with a run in the third and two in the fourth to grab a 3-2 lead, but Beck tied it with another RBI hit in the bottom half.

From there, the Marlins took control. Ramírez lifted a sacrifice fly off Jaden Hill (1-1) in the sixth, and Heriberto Hernández added another sac fly in the seventh. In the eighth, Ramírez launched a two-run homer to left — his 21st of the season — to break the game open. Joey Wiemer capped the night with a pinch-hit RBI single in the ninth.

Colorado put 10 runners on base against Weathers through four innings but managed only three runs. Bachar’s two clean innings of relief in the fifth and sixth quieted the Rockies’ offense and set the stage for Miami’s late surge.

9: Walks and hit batters issued by Colorado pitchers (eight walks, one HBP). 3: Marlins batters plunked in the first two games of the series. 40 minutes: Weather delay before first pitch.

The series concludes Thursday night. Miami will send RHP Sandy Alcantara (9-12, 5.53 ERA) to the mound, while Colorado counters with RHP Tanner Gordon (6-6, 6.14 ERA).
