Rams Rout Jaguars 35-7 in Rainy London, Stafford Throws 5 TDs in Record-Setting Performance

Matthew Stafford might not be receiving a knighthood anytime soon for his performance at Wembley Stadium, but the Los Angeles Rams quarterback certainly earned a place in NFL international lore. Stafford threw five touchdown passes as the Rams dominated the Jacksonville Jaguars, 35-7, in Sunday’s Week 7 London Game — marking the first time in NFL international history a quarterback threw five touchdowns in a single game.

With the victory, the Rams improved to 5-2, their best start since their Super Bowl-winning season in 2021, while Jacksonville fell to 4-3.

Stafford, who hasn’t thrown five touchdowns in a game since Thanksgiving 2015 with Detroit, faced little resistance from the Jaguars’ defense. He connected with star receiver Davante Adams for three touchdowns, and also found rookie receiver Konata Mumpfield and rookie tight end Terrance Ferguson for scores. Adams, stepping up with Puka Nacua sidelined by an ankle injury, became the second player ever to catch three touchdowns in an international game, joining Marcedes Lewis, who did so for Jacksonville against the Ravens at Wembley in 2017.

Adams caught two touchdowns in the first half and added a third on a 1-yard jump ball in the fourth quarter, prompting many Jaguars fans to head for the exits. Stafford finished 21-of-33 for 182 yards, while Jacksonville quarterback Trevor Lawrence completed 23-of-48 passes for 296 yards and a lone touchdown to rookie two-way star Travis Hunter. Hunter’s 1-yard touchdown, his first in the NFL, capped a day in which he caught eight passes for 101 yards — the lone bright spot for the Jaguars.

The Rams arrived in London on Saturday morning but showed no signs of jet lag. They scored three first-half touchdowns, with Mumpfield opening the scoring on a 5-yard reception — his second career catch — and Adams following with two quick scores. Both players celebrated with the now-iconic “Siu” celebration made famous by soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, with Adams saving his third touchdown celebration for late in the game. Ferguson added a 31-yard fourth-and-1 touchdown reception early in the fourth quarter, pushing the lead to 28-0.

Rams linebacker Byron Young continued his streak of sacks, recording at least one in nine consecutive regular-season games.

Rams: Bye in Week 8, then host the New Orleans Saints at SoFi Stadium in Week 9. Jaguars: Bye in Week 8, then visit the Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium in Week 9.

The Rams’ performance in London was a show of offensive dominance, with Stafford rediscovering the magic that has defined his career. For Jaguars fans, the rookie Hunter’s touchdown provided a small consolation in an otherwise lopsided contest.
